Aubrey povMy head throbbed.
I couldn't remember anything after Luca hurt Noah, it angered me how someone so caring and gentle could do something like that.
I found out from the guards that Luca had locked me in his chambers when I first woke up 3 hours ago. I couldn't believe that he would strip away my freedoms because he was overcome with the fear of losing me, Maybe he should have listened or talked to me rather than slapping a child.
I woke up around 4:30 in the morning, Luca had left a glass of water and some painkillers, but I refused to take them instead I fixed up his bed and sat on the floor- I didn't need anything from him. He took away my phone so I couldn't call anyone for help, but me being me I wasn't the one to give up, I had tried multiple times to try sneaking out, but there were guards in front of the bedroom door, outside the window and probably all over this house.
I sat looking out of the window I saw stars that were fading away, but I could still make out some of the constellations. I saw the north star and Betelgeuse which later lead me to Orion's belt.
It was soon going to be morning soon I could tell from the color change on the horizon
My eyes widened as an Idea popped into my mind. I didn't have to leave, but I could still be free and this was totally going to piss of Luca which was my main goal in life now.
The balcony french doors were locked and my only other option was the window right beside it so I stuck my hands underneath and pried them open. When there was enough room for me to get out I stopped.
It took some time to find the ledge of the balcony, as soon as I landed on the balcony I leaned over the edge and quickly pulled down the window so no one could suspect were I went. Didn't need them to know where I was when the noticed I was 'gone'. My next goal was to get on the roof. The balcony had 3 chairs. If I stacked them one on top of the other I could reach the ledge of the roof.
after 4 failed attempts I tightly held onto the ledge as the chairs fell over. Without me this time.
I used my lacking arm strength and pulled myself up.
Something was different,
I could finally breathe.
I laid down and stared at the sky in awe, it was so beautiful. The colors ranged from yellows, pinks, and purple, the blue in the sky was fading as the day took over. This site was irreplaceable.
I felt so free.
I hated being enclosed in places, big or small I hated it. I remember when I was small I got locked in my parents walk in closet and I panicked, it felt like the walls were closing in and I was suffocating, I couldn't take in a breath, but right now I felt happy.
I felt like a bird spreading its wings and soaring through the sky. letting the wind slice around me. okay, that was a bit too much. even I cringed at my attempt to be poetic.
I let out a yawn and braced myself for a nap.
I slowly drifted into a heavy deep sleep.
***
My eyes fluttered open but quickly sealed shut when the light hit me. I groaned my back hurt, but that was the best sleep I've had in ages. Adjusting to the light I got up, it looked like it was mid-day. Well, that sucks. They probably noticed that I was gone by now. So I climbed back down into the window and shut it behind me.
I went and checked if there were any guards at the door. There were none.
I quickly ran out and down the stairs to the kitchen, but stopped in my tracks. My stomach grumbled, I was hungry.
I noticed a tall woman in her early 40's cooking, and whatever she was cooking smelled really good. She looked up to see me and smiled.
"What can I do for you honey." she asked sweetly.
"Ah, do you have something to eat, I'm new here." She laughed softly and nodded.
"I'm Aubrey, it's nice to meet you," I said while taking a seat on a breakfast bar stool.
"Sweety I know who you are, I'm the cook in this house, Evangeline." She went back to making the food. How did she know me, I've never seen her in my whole life.
I was so caught up with everything that I didn't notice the whole house was empty. Where was everyone? Maybe Evangeline knew, "Evangeline, Where is everybody?" I asked curiously.
"Out looking for you." She answered bluntly, "You've given Alpha Luca quite the scare, He asked me to make you breakfast and when he went to give it to you, you were gone. Where did you go? We checked the whole house, and your scent was faint."
"I was on the roof, I really hate being enclosed in rooms for a really long time so since there were guards all over the place I went to the one place that wasn't guarded." I pointed up, and she laughed while handing me a chicken wrap.
"Thanks," I took a bite and let out a pleasurable moan. "Mmmm, this is amazing. Who knew that chicken wraps could be this good." I kept eating enjoying my food.
My enjoyment was cut short as Luca came in yelling.
He stopped when he saw me.
He pointed his finger at me and his jaw was hanging open.
I couldn't help but let out a giggle at his weirdness.
"Evangeline, could you excuse us for a moment," He asked dryly, not even sparing her a glance. I looked over to her and she nods leaving us both alone.
Oh. crap. Here comes the lecture. I used to run away from those dreadful words about wisdom.
I slowly put my wrap down while he watched me with a hard glance. This was getting awkward. I stood up to leave, but before I could his voice stopped me.
"Where were you?" I looked up to meet his gaze.
They were masked by anger.
Why was he angry? I should be the one who should have steam coming out of her ears because last time I checked I was the one who was imprisoned in that stupid room, Chamber, or whatever the fuck it was called.
"I was in your room...'Alpha'." I hissed adding more menacing hatred into his title. With that, I turned to leave, but his hard grip on my arm stopped me.
"Don't lie! I checked that room. Every corner of it." He yelled with his husky voice. I yanked my arm out of his hard grip and smiled tightly.
"You should have looked harder." I clarified.
This time venom coated every word I spoke.
