Her chest burned. Her legs ached, yet she knew she couldn't stop. Passing through the rugged forest twigs and brambels pecked her feet and legs. Dust clouded her eyes as she struggled to see as the hood of her cloak was so low.
Behind her she could her neighbors chasing her.
Beckoning her
Their hearts were as warm as the the torches that burned brightly in their grasps. Even when she looked behind her the light didn't dim.
It only got brighter.
The loud pitter patter of feet followed her path. With hooves covering their every step. Desperate she saw a tree. She ran to it and wrapped her arms around it. She wanted security but that only came at a price. It was a luxury. She placed her forehead on the tree's surface taking deep breaths. Placing her palms on the bark she slurred her words as her fingers fluttered over the wood. Using all the energy she had she felt a surge. She stepped back and saw a shimmer from the tree. She looked to the one that was parallel from it and saw the same glow. The trees grew openly. Stretching they're arms to each other they got tangled barricading the path. She couldn't wait long so she began to run again, but she paced herself a lot more. Her heart wandered yet her mind refused to lose focus. The memory she held in her heart would remain as a curse.
"You must go."
Isadore spoke sternly to her friend. The has been a decree for mystical beasts and beings to be terminated. Both of them knew from the screams they heard from families losing their children or loved ones. Husbands and wives stripped from each other. Taking 'till death do us part' literally. Saying it's for the kingdom's own good to be rid of the devilish people who existed eventually to destroy them all. The scary thing is.
They knew their names.
Endora was next to go. "But-"
"I'd rather see you live than burned to a stake." Isadore voice was firm yet fear was in her dusty eyes as she practically threw items in the satchel. It was dark brown and woven. Endora ran to her room. Looking at the many scrolls and books scattered she knew her studies would have to wait. She grabbed her wand and ran into her friend in the way out. Her gray eyes were shaking when she handed her an amulet. It was hers. "Why are you giving me this?" "Its my family's custom. One of the ones we adopted to look normal." she said with a slight laugh.
"Isi I-"
"Oh just take it." Even though she saw the slight curl in her lios she could feel her heart pinch through her chest. "Out of all this you were the ray of lys in my life." Isadore said pronouncing the y softly. Endora wrapped her arms round her as tears fell slowly from the two of them. The jewel was placed in a box to ensure its saftey. Lastly, Endora was given her friends cloak. It was midnight blue almost black. "Now go." she said quickly. Endora began to go but Isadore called her back. "This way." she pointed towards the back as Endora followed. She looked one last time at their home. One more times at the decorations. One last time at her friend. "Hex the stars." she said softly. "Curse the sea." Isadore responded. "Forever implanted in the roots of the trees."
With those final words she left.
Her eyes began to burn but the wind brushed each tear from her eyes. She whipped her head around finally to see what faced her. She immediately slowed her paced finally stopping at the edge. Realizing how high she lived up she saw the lower region of the castle. How blood stained the sides of the terrain of people who's souls were no longer bound here. Her eyes wandered endlessly untill she saw a new route, but as soon as her feet moved she could feel the heat of the hell that awaited her. The smoothe cloak got caught on a small tree she didn't see before. She tugged at it but the roots ran deep. It was stronger then it looked. "Please. Oh please let go.." It felt like her own saviors were against her and awaited her arrival. Maybe it was they're form of a welcome. No longer would she suffer. The tip of the branch that help her bound finally broke, but the force was too much for her to be able balance herself. It felt as if the the wind was trying to catch her, but she fell over the ledge. She rolled brusing her body. The wind was knocked out of her. The ground was rough and didn't craddle her body as she fell. Once she stopped she looked up. The light grew and shurk as they knew she couldn't possibly survive it. Endora felt her mind drift.
Go to sleep
Obeying her body began to shut down. Slowly she no longer possessed the power to keep herself alive. Like her life force was slowly being taken from her in a matter of minutes.
"Isadore "
She let her breath call that name as if she was child calling for their mother.
