Trigger warning: Ok so I'm a poopyhead and forgot to put this in my trigger warnings when I submitted my fic to the PBB so I'm really sorry if you're coming from there. There is some mild violence dotted randomly through the fic. None of it is particularly graphic though, just typical lord of the rings style enemy slaying, without the gory visuals. No characters you would likely care about.
Author's Note: Hey, so before you guys get into the story I just wanted to say a few words...
So I wrote this fic for the Phandom Big Bang 2015 and all I can say is that it was hellas fun. I had a great time working with my amazing team, Lisa and Michelle (acciomoondew and spiritedlester on tumblr, so go check them out!).
You can find Michelle's art alongside this chapter. If you want to see a larger version then click the link at the bottom of the chapter (in the grey bar, under the label 'external link').If you can't find the button, the link is: http://spiritedlester.tumblr.com/post/131425484022/close-your-eyes-relax-your-mind-and-let-it-fill
It's super-crazy-awesome and I'm in love with it <3 I also want to say a big thanks to Lisa, who stayed up late (again) helping me finalise the fic and get it ready for submission, ily!
Anyways I'll leave you all to read the fic now, enjoy!
*Puts on 'the one ring', vanishes and runs away...*
"Finally!" Louise said. "We were about to send out a search party after you." Dan rolled his eyes and bit into his hotdog. The dry bread and plasticky sausage taking far too long to chew.
"Ugh! I can't believe I waited 10 minutes for this." Dan grumbled.
"I can't believe you paid three pound fifty for that." PJ laughed.
"That's why I packed my own food." Louise pulled out a container from her bag and began assembling a salad sandwich.
"Damn you and your preparedness." Dan plonked down next to Louise and forced himself to take another bite out of his hotdog.
"So where are we going to next?" PJ pulled a neatly folded map out of his pocket and began scanning the paper. "The haunted house looks fun."
"We still haven't been on the ferris wheel." Louise said.
""Let's go on the ferris wheel, there were no creepy trees surrounding that ride." said Dan. PJ sighed, disappointed by his friends' lack of spirit for adventure - or at least a good scare.
"Ok then... ferris wheel it is."
The party of three began trudging through the crowds. Their mouths watered at the smell of popcorn as the late summer sun enveloped them in a soft warmth. Dan slowed to a halt outside a deep purple tent with orange and green detailing. It was made of a thick material and the entrance dimmed almost immediately to a pitch black, as if all sunlight was somehow prevented from entering.
"What did you stop for?" PJ stood in disbelief as Dan continued peering closely at the bright letters that curled their way across a midnight blue board.
"Um Dan... are you feeling okay?" Louise, noticing the boys were no longer with her, had turned back and joined them outside the tent. "I thought you thought psychics were just money grabbing hokum spreaders."
"I do." Dan turned around, finally acknowledging the presence of his friends.
"So why are you so interested in this one all of a sudden?" questioned PJ.
"I was thinking of going in ironically." PJ and Louise stared at Dan with a mix of confusion and ridicule. "Oh come on guys, it'll be funny! I want to know my future" Dan waved his hands mysteriously in front of his face, letting out a small chuckle. PJ and Louise rolled their eyes, entering the heavily scented tent after their friend.
A strange woman sat cross legged on a thin cushion at the back of the room. Her unruly hair was tamed by a plum headscarf that was secured in place with a large bedazzled pin. She was adorned in colourful jewellery. Each piece crafted from one of the forty-three different gemstones she had deemed necessary to wear that day. A mass of gaudy tapestries hung around the walls, closing in the already suffocating room. The woman's olive skin glowed in the light of a dozen scented candles. Dan walked in first, lightly knocking an ornament stand and almost sending the place up in flames. The woman's extravagantly decorated eyes shot open, a sharp glare piercing through Dan instantly. Her stare softened quickly however and an almost pleasant smile returned to her face.
"Enter Child, come and sit." She gestured to a thin cushion directly in front of her. PJ and Louise wandered in and she motioned for them to sit on either side of Dan. "What has brought you here today my child?"
"I'd like to have the crystal ball reading." Dan said, picking the cheapest of the options from the board.
"And anything for your friends?" Louise and PJ shook their heads. "Wonderful, that will be five pound my dear." Dan handed her the money and sat back expectantly. The woman pocketed the money with a gentle swipe and stood, making her way over to begin plucking items off a small, worn shelf at the back of the tent. She returned, placing a tiny, plump cushion on the floor between them before draping a psychedelic purple cloth overtop. Finally, she perched the cloudy crystal ball atop it's freshly made bed.
The woman, satisfied with her setup, gestured for Dan to give her his hands. He complied, reaching out and placing them in her soft palms. "I need you to concentrate on yourself, your being and your spirit. Think about where you have been, where you are...and where you may go." She wrapped his hands around the bottom of the crystal ball. "Close your eyes, relax your mind and let it fill with thoughts. Accept these thoughts, let them drift past you, observe them but do not ponder too long on one thing." The woman began waving her hands, allowing them to dance, flowing around the crystal ball in smooth motions. She closed her eyes, letting her head tilt back. The room went quiet, the sounds of the carnival thriving outside slowly drifting away. A pair of eyes snapped open, revealing the stark whites. The woman began mumbling in a breathy voice, slowly increasing in volume. "I can see...happiness...but also great darkness, beware of it, steer only towards the light...and there's someone...someone new...a new relationship on the horizon...and a great one at that...you will battle armies...part oceans...create great magic like no other...but there is sadness...lost hope...and..." The woman gasped, the candles in the room brightened, as if the flames were burning a little stronger. "a boy...a boy...i can see him...burning...brighter than the sun...AHHHH!" Dan opened his eyes, shocked by the sudden racket. The woman clutched her eyes, screaming as if something were burning holes through them, trying to escape the confines of her head."Blue eyes...jet black hair...i can see him...he's coming towards me...what are you...?? how are you doing this...?? no...no...get out! GET OUT! GET OUT OF ME!" The woman thrashed, knocking the crystal ball and sending it rolling. Dan jumped back, a horrified expression on his face. Dan, PJ and Louise swapped a quick, terrified look and with that the three of them quickly made for the exit.
Dan breathed in deeply as the cool air hit his face, glad to be free from the stuffy confines of the tent. He turned to his friends, the shock still quite evident on all their faces.
"Well... I wasn't quite expecting such theatrics." Dan joked, rather uncomfortable with what the three of them had just witnessed.
"So um... how do you guys feel about the merry-go-round? My shout? I think we already found our way to the haunted house ride." PJ said, letting out an awkward chuckle.
"I haven't heard a better suggestion all day." Louise enthused. And with that the three of them made their way towards the merry-go-round and away from the horrors of the psychic's tent.
