None of you will probably care much about this little "about the book" section — an author's note is hardly the most riveting part of any book — but I figured I'd take a moment to share a brief journey behind writing the "Wizards" series as a whole. If you're not interested, don't worry, you can skip right past it, but the most important takeaway from this is that this has taken me a lot of time and effort to write so I hope to enjoy the book!
But if you are interested, thanks for taking the time to read through this! What you'll find out here is that I have taken a lot of time and effort to create the story, so I really, truly appreciate it! This series has been the labour of love for me since 2012, just a year off when I actually jumped into the quirky rabbit hole that is the Wizarding World. I have been developing the story for the past 12 years.
Yes, I didn't quite grow up with "Harry Potter" as much as I would have liked (and I'm low-key jealous of all of you who did) but it has become such an incredibly formative piece of my life for years. Besides, in my head it was kind of fate because I started my whole wizard's journey at age 11 so that has to count, right? Didn't get my Hogwarts Letter though, so that's up for debate but anyhow ...
My mother is the kind of Christian who believes these books to be the whole and beloved scripture of Satan himself (which never made any sense to me because she's a big fan of "Twilight" which actually speaks of devil spawn and — the cherry on top — never blinked an eye when my brother and I told her we were trying to learn the Black Speech from "Lord of the Rings").
She's still not quite on board with my obsessive love for "Harry Potter" but bless her soul! She is still my number one supporter who deserves the world, and I love her to bits anyway! That being said, I did grow up with a genuine fear that I would be sent straight to hell if I read even a single word ... imagine my surprise when those first words were "Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much." It was a very confusing time, needless to say.
Before "Harry Potter," though, I'd always wanted to be a storyteller — even if I didn't quite know what it meant when I was younger. I used to create entire worlds by drawing random characters and creatures and making up names and stories for them in my head. A LOT of these drawings were various versions of Power Rangers, which my brother and I took a lot of solace in acting out before bedtime in our Dino Thunder onesies.
