What felt like moments passed before the voices began screaming in my head. They sound angry. probably because Karvers presence had temporarily qiueted them. They were screaming but I wasn't quite sure what they wanted me to do. I was sore beyond beleif because with the voices came the excruciating pain.
I forced my eyes open. It was dark in my room. The curtain was drawn, covering the one large window. I wanted to see the light. Tears started to stream down my face. My day was ruined, I was in exruciating pain, the voices were back and Karver was gone. I pressed the call button I just wanted to go back to sleep. The voices couldn't torment me when I was asleep.
I moment after I pressed the green call button, the young nurse came in. She had let her hair down, and I noticed she was actually quite pretty.
"Good morning," she said smiling, her too sweet smile. "What do you need?"
"Um," The voices had muttled my thouhts. "Um, I-I W-w-would like some more medicine.Please." I was stuttering. Badly.
She smiled, nodded and then walked out the door. She came back several moments later. After she shot the ice through my veins I asked her where Karver had gone.
"He went home, yesterday," she said, it may have been the drugs but she seemed releived that he was gone. "He had to go to school. He stayed here all day yesterday and even while you were asleep," She added , her tone of voice made it seem that she thought that it was silly he had stayed so long.
She left then and I smiled. Karver had stayed even when I was sleeping. I hoped that he would come to seem me after school. The voices began to scream at me, scolding me for wanting Karver to come visit.
I wish the voices would stop. I was tired but everytime I got to that place between sleep and being awake the voices started schreeching; commanding me to stay awake. I whispered ti it asking it, actually begging it to be quiet. I didn't mean for my voice to get above a whisper but I was tired adn the voices wouldn't shut up! the young nurse barged in ready to ask someone to leave.
Whe she saw no one was there she asked me who I was yelling at.
"The voices," I replied, I don't know if my voice was audible, because I could not hear myself over the screaming of the voices. She looked at me skeptically, furrowing her brow.
"I'll be right back," She said backing out slowly until she disappeared behind the rainbow pastel curtain. I seperated my mind into two sections: One for the voices and the other for me to try and think with.
I took in my surroundings. There was two large green arm chairs pushed up agianst the wall by the window. The monitor next to me was beeping rythmatically with my heart rate. The curtain covering the door didn't make sense. It was a single person room, what was the purpose of it?
The door opened and the nurse walked in. She was carrying a small plastic cup like the ones you get on the top of NYquil. She handed it to me and there was a small white pill in it. she reached over to the t.v. tray on wheels and grabbed the red water bottle. I took a swig and popped the pill in my mouth. As I tilted my head back to swallow I read the nurse's hospital badge. Raychel Mathews, R.N. In her picture she was blonde. Her hair wasn't naturally brown or she had dyed it blonde for that picture. That made me giggle, I tried to hold it in but it came out a little making me sputter and choke. She scowled. She wrote something on her clipboard, checked my I.V., and then stomped out of my room.
What ever she had given me made the voices disappear back into the corners of my mind. I drifted to sleep, grateful for the quiet. At first there were no dreams only blackness. Then someone turned on the projector and the movie started....
