Considered the best of its genre, screwball comedy, My Man Godfrey sure is one good laugh, at least for me.

It centered around the dysfunctional Bullock family and its new butler, Godfrey Smith, which the family's youngest daughter, Irene, hired out of pity.

Irene instantly fell for him, a fact that is not unbeknowst to him and Irene's sister, Cornelia, who dislikes Godfrey and his pride, proving it through different means of trying to get rid of him.

As the movie progresses, Godfrey's mysterious past unravelled and with that the Bullocks faced money problems which Godfrey secretly helped them with.

It's a fun movie and it made me laugh quite hard especially during Irene's attempts to get Godfrey's attention and how Godfrey remained a passive character not even showing any signs of falling in love.

Of course, as all screwball comedy ends, it has quite a happy one. I actually like its ending, though it still left me wanting more.

I've watched a lot of screwball comedies and among all of it, I can totally say that this one is one f the best. 8.0/10 on IMDb is proof enough.

Directed By: Gregory La Cava

Starring: Carole Lombard and William Powell

Trivias:

- My Man Godfrey is based on a short story "1101 Park Avenue"

- First movie to ever get nominated on all four acting categories (Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress)

- Carole Lombard and William Powell, who played Godfrey Smith, were divorced for three years before they even starred in this film but Powell insisted Lombard to play Irene.

- Carole Lombard has a habit of ad-libbing swear words.
