~Present~
After we get settled down from our little adventure in first class, Maggie pulls out her phone and suggests, "Hey, how about we re-watch season four? Once Upon A Time? Are you up for it, Chels?"
Excitedly, I nod and exclaim, "Yes, yes, yes! Of course! Did you even have to ask?!"
Maggie puts her finger to her lips and shushes me, "Jennifer is asleep! We do not wake her up!"
We burst out giggling and I pull out my earbuds. Clipping them into Maggie's phone, I hand her one. We stick them in our ears. Maggie opens the Netflix app and searches for Once Upon A Time. Eventually, we agree on an episode we want. While it is loading we lean back and pull out some snack. Then, the episode begins and we disappear into the world of Storybrooke, villains, and magic.
Three hours later we hear an announcement that we will be landing in fifteen minutes. We quickly pause the episode and clip our seat belts together. When there are about five minutes left in our episode, Ann suddenly reaches back and smacks Maggie hard in the leg. Suddenly, so surprised, Maggie rips the earbuds out and tosses her phone into the air. Luckily, I catch it before it lands on the ground, which surprises me because, you know, I'm a clumsy freak.
"What in the world did you do that for!?" Maggie says to Ann, somewhat angrily.
Innocently, Ann replies, "You didn't answer me."
"You could have at least tapped me." Maggie argues back.
Shrugging her shoulders, Ann says, "Nah."
I hand Maggie her phone and replace my earbud in my ear when Ann continues, "Whatcha watching?"
Then, Maggie shoots back, "You mean, what were we watching before you decided to scare us half to death?"
Ann nods again, being completely serious.
"We were watching Once Upon A Time." I blurt out because, quite frankly, I'm tried of Maggie and Ann arguing.
Sarcastically, Jennifer tells me, peeking at us from between the seats, "Really? How am I not surprised? Which episodes?"
This time, Maggie answer nicely, "Just old ones, from season four."
"Or course. Again, why am I not surprised?!" Jenn says with a breathy laugh.
Just then, the pilot's voice comes on over the crackling intercom and he announces that we are supposed to prepare for landing. Maggie unplugs my earbuds, hands them to me, and I drop them down in my bag, way to excited to put them where they are supposed to go. Then, she puts her phone into her pocket.
When we eventually do land, we are allowed to unbuckle our seat belts and open the overhead bins. We grab our carry ons and hurriedly try to exit the plane.
"Come on, let's go!" Jennifer says, with a hint of excitement in her normally quiet voice.
Maggie and I quickly stand, then we bounce off in front of the others. We wait for them at the exit of the terminal. When they finally get there, we go retrieve our baggage.
At the baggage carousel hundreds of suitcases and duffle bags circle around. When I see my pink duffle, I elbow my way through the crowd and barely reach it. I pull it off the conveyer belt and sling it across my shoulder. Then, I see my suitcase. I wait, somewhat impatiently, for it to come within my reach. Eventually, I pull it off and rejoin the others near a fountain. After we are all together, I grab Maggie's hand and whisper into her ear, "Maggie, let's go into that gift shop, by ourselves, and look for a gift for them. Like an 'I'm not mad at you anymore for practically forcing us to come on this trip' kinda gift. We'll see what we can find."
I stand up and look around, when I see the gift shop, I hear Ann voice my thoughts, "Hey, look! A gift shop! Maybe we can buy some souvenirs or something!"
"Good idea!" I smile!
Then, Maggie suggests, "Yeah, you two stay with our stuff and we'll go see if we can find something."
"How about we all go?" Jennifer counter suggests.
Maggie struggles to keep our plan, "No, just stay here because, well, I just don't want our stuff to get taken."
Without anymore explanations, we turn and walk off, right towards the shop. When we walk in I feel like I'm in a shopping heaven. The shelves are fully stocked with, shirts, books, snow globes, hoodies, and jewelry. I look up at Maggie, who is looking at me. My eyes widen and I let go of her hand and run to the section of snow globes. I know exactly what we should get for Jenn. Once we've looked through all of them, we decide on one that has her name printed in swirly letters along the bottom. On the inside there is a little cabin with trees all around. And, there is a slot that you can slid a picture into and you can see it through the back of the globe. We look around some more and decide to also purchase a few jewelry items. Mostly for me. I love wearing jewelry, especially if it is sparkly, has diamonds, or has glitter.
Eventually, Maggie picks out a pink shirt for herself. For Ann, we get a keychain, which looks like a pocket knife, and has the word Canada etched across the top in red swirling letters. We check out then try to hide the plastic package in my backpack.
When we reach the fountain where the girls are sitting, Jennifer questions, "Did you guys find anything?"
Maggie instantly answers, because I can't ever keep a secret, "No, sadly, we didn't find anything."
Then, Ann asks somewhat suspiciously, "How's come? Out of that whole store, you two didn't find anything? Not one thing at all? " She knows that I absolutely love to shop and its nearly impossible for me not to buy something whenever I go into a store, especially if I have my credit card, so she seems a bit surprised when we show up with no huge bags, much less no bags at all.
I playfully continue, trying to sway their thoughts, "It was all kind of overly priced: real real expensive."
"To be honest, it was. I'm sure we will find something somewhere else, maybe." Maggie backs me up.
Then, Jennifer just shrugs it off by simply saying, "Oh, okay."
We exit the airport through a pair of huge glass doors, and, on the curb, Maggie calls for a taxi. Once one pulls over to us, we pack the trunk and all squeeze into the backseat. Jennifer give the driver directions to our hotel and we pull away from the airport.
