Eldon's POV
"Thanks," I say to my Mom after she drops me off outside the studio. It's the day after the competition ended and the first rehearsal with Lucien in charge. I'm absolutely dreading it. James isn't going to be there, Hunter isn't. Neither is Thalia. I was starting to find feelings for her and now it doesn't seem like we're going to get any closer. It's really bothering me. But poor Riley. I mean, her and James had been getting even closer since Nationals and it may well be the end of them now. I hope not. James was so happy with her. Not that I'm going to see him that much any more but he's still my best friend at heart. I'm really gonna miss him. The A-troupe rehearsals are 4pm to 9pm on weekdays and 8am to 9:30pm on weekends. Today is Monday. That's a lot different to what it used to be. B-troupe rehearsals were scheduled so that the two troupes get to mix, but Lucien just got rid of that completely. I just wasn't bothered at school today. I had too much on my mind. It was horrible. I had to get sent to the principal I was slacking so badly. I just told him it was dance related and that was it.
As I walk down the corridor to studio A, all I can hear is silence. I get a murmur of chatter from Hidalgos but nothing else. I tend to hear laughs and music from the music room. Nothing as I walk past. Our old A-troupe members will be there in an hour. To not push themselves. To miss their friends. To just be unhappy. This studio used to be thriving, but now it's not.
As I approach Studio A, I see the about half of the troupe lined up outside. Most of them Elite people, of course. I see Riley, leaning by the wall in silence. Nick, Tess, Shantel and Cierra are there too.
"Hey," I say to her quietly. I am only met with an erray of "shh!"s. I gulp and make eye contact with Riley. Maybe this is how things worked at Elite?
As about three minutes come and go, the rest of the troupe arrive. It's going to be so weird dancing with these people and under Lucien's rules.
Suddenly, the doors to studio A open and Lucien is standing there. The Elite dancers start to walk in automatically so we just follow in. Everyone is silent. Lucien turns the lights on and I walk over to my cubby, only to find Nick pulling all my stuff out.
"Hey!" I say to him. He just glares at me.
"What?" He just blurts out. I'm seriously angry right now.
"That's my cubby!" I say. I'm practically shouting.
"Well it's his now," Lucien says. This is ridiculous. I go to only free one left, next to West's. I just stare at him. We obviously can't talk, so we kind of just sigh and raise eyebrows at each other. It's awkward.
"Come on everyone! You should be ready by now!" Lucien shouts. We all make our way over to the middle of the dance floor. The Next Step dancers grouped together, separated from the Elite dancers.
Lucien takes a register, nothing like Kate or Phoebe would ever do. They would just look around.
"Right, now you lot need to get used to how we run things here at Elite."
