Chapter One

It’s okay to cry when what you expected doesn’t happen.

[Sean’s POV]

“So...I have to tell you something”

He put down his comic book and swung his feet around to face me.

“What?” he replied in his usual deadpan voice.

I cleared my throat, playing nervously with the basketball in my hands.

“I like you” my eyes flittered from him to the ball.

His face was still cold as stone.

“Well” he replied, a rare genuine smile on his face “Considering the fact that you literally begged to be my friend since 4th grade, I would be a little surprised if you said you didn’t like me”

I chuckled uneasily “Micah I uhm didn’t mean it like- like that”

“So what did you mean?” he squints slowly, eyeing me suspiciously

“I’m gay” I whispered shrugging “And I like you”

I breathed the biggest sigh of relief, but that didn’t stop my heart from beating wildly, probably because he never gave anything away, ever

He closed his eyes tightly. I watched him as he took off his reading glasses and put them on his dresser.

“Are you fucking with me Sean?” he asks calmly “I know I told you were funny yesterday but –“

“It’s not a joke” I quickly interrupt him

“Then this is very unsettling” his voice comes out in a cold whisper.

Unsettling?

“That’s all you have to say- it’s unsettling?”

“No” he shook his head with a small smile “I want you to get out of my room”

“No” I take a step forward towards him dropping my ball “You can’t just kick me out”

He stood up “Yes I can” his face was relaxed as always but his green eyes deceived him, they blazed with fury.

He walked towards me but then quickly took two steps back, he always forgot that he could intimidate me with his words but not physically, I towered over him and whilst he was toned and muscular my arms were almost double the size of his.

“Why are you so angry?!”  I ask trying to calm myself; we both had bad tempers, both of us didn’t need to be enraged.

“I’m not angry Sean”

Lie.

“I’m disappointed”

What the fuck?

“Disappointed because I’m gay? Because I like you?”

He grimaced “I know the subject; you don’t have to say it”

“What gay?” I half shouted “I have kept this in for so long, and this is what I get from you Micah? My best friend?!”

He glared at me menacingly “Get out of my fucking room Sean”

“You’re an asshole”

“Forever and always” he smiled coldly before reverting back to his former position

I picked up my ball and stormed out of his room slamming the door behind me.

The corridors were deserted, our dormitory always was this early in the morning.

I used this opportunity to think about what just happened.

In about 10 minutes I lost my best friend.

I was not expecting that.

Sighing heavily I closed my eyes and leaned my head against the wall, what I’m going to-

“Carter!” my eyes snapped opened and my head turned to the direction of the hollering.

I smiled unconvincingly at 4 of team mates who were running down the corridors probably waking up everyone on their way.

“Ready for the game tonight, Captain?”  Jason grinned excitedly, his blonde hair flying about everywhere

“Oh yeah...super ready” I grunted

“awesome” He smiled, oblivious to my obvious un-excitement “Don’t forget training starts in about 20 minutes with coach”

“Yeah...yeah I’ll be there”

He slapped my shoulder and walked off with the others, shouting and laughing as they did so. I sunk my back against the wall, my whole body sliding towards the ground, with my knees gathered towards my face, I sighed, feeling a single tear easily falling out.
