"Ngh. Too bright." I groan only half asleep as I see a blinding light suddenly take over my comfortably dark hotel room.

I slowly open one eye to see a man's silhouette in front of the source of light.  Once the black figure started to speak I recognized the posh British accent of my butler, William.  "I'm sorry Miss, but it's time to wake up." I groaned once more before sitting up and adjusting my eyes to the newly found light but soon I could see all the details of my room.  Everything from my white queen size bed to the many pictures hanging on the cream colored walls.

After I finished taking in my surroundings I noticed that William had already left the room. I get up and went to check my E-mail for any new cases before getting ready for the day. Seeing as I have no new cases, or E-mails for that matter, I decide to get a quick shower and get dressed.

When I get out of the shower I go over to my closet to pick out today's outfit. I go with a pair of blue jean shorts with a belt, a plain black T-shirt that wasn't too tight or too baggy, and my red high top Converse. I put my straight golden locks into a perfectly messy bun and apply a coat or two of mascara before going to the kitchen to get some breakfast.

As soon as I step out of my room I get hit with a delicious fragrance. It was like a punch to the face and made my mouth water like crazy! I stop, close my eyes, and inhale deeply.

"Fresh bacon, your secret pancake recipe, maple syrup, and fresh squeezed orange juice." I voice my thoughts.

"Well good morning to you too Miss." William chuckles while loading up my plate with lots of pancakes and bacon.

"Hello William, what's on today's schedule?" I always have some important meeting or something to go to.

I take a bite of my fluffy pancake pile. They are so soft and cooked to perfection. You can really taste the cinnamon from the pancakes but it isn't overwhelming. Perfect as always.

"Your schedule is clear for the day and tomorrow we are heading back to England." He informs me.

Finally, I could really use this day off, I'm sure he could too. "Thank you William, seeing as I can do anything I please today, you can have the day off as well." I can take advantage of this time to look into some stuff that I've been putting off for some time now.

"Thank you. But, are you sure that you won't be needing me?"

While William is talking, my mind starts to drift and I keep thinking about my own personal case that I'm going to work. The person who is beating me as world's greatest detective. There is a vary high chance that said person went to Whammy's House at some point in his/her life. I just need to think back and see if I knew anyone who had the ability to get this far and the motivation to do so.

-Thoughts-

The first person who comes to mind with the first initial L is a girl with short brown hair who goes be the name Lauren. If I remember correctly she had a rather thick Irish accent and was very outgoing, a bit too outgoing if you ask me. She was very smart and generally good at everything we did in class but she was unable to keep even the smallest of secrets. For this reason alone she could not be the detective that I'm looking for.

The second person that popped into my head was a young boy named Liam. He had sandy blonde hair that could cover his bright blue eyes. The way he spoke gave me the impression that English was his second language and his accent told me that his native language was German but I can't say that with 100% certainty. He was a shy boy (the total opposite of Lauren). But he wasn't too interested in the idea of being a detective. The sight of blood made him faint.

After going through a mental list of all the kids at Whammy's with L as their first initial I had narrowed it down to three options:

Number one is a boy with messy brown hair and captivating green and yellow eyes that, even after all these years, are extraordinarily hard to forget. He was one of the top three smartest kids at Whammy's. His name is Lane and he was an American with what I believed to be a southern accent. As for his personality, I haven't a clue what he was like but I do know that he was rather skilled at the art of deduction and was very interested in the chance to become the world's greatest detective.

Number two is a a Korean girl with long black hair that she always wore straight down past her shoulders or in a high pony tail. Her eyes were big and brown, her nose was slightly turned upward which really complimented her features. She has told me many things about what it's like growing up and living in South Korea even if it was only for a short while (this is why I'm so interested in the country and learning the language. I hope to visit there some day.) Everyone called her Leah but I'm not sure if that's her real name of not.Leah's personality was serious at first but she was actually fun to hang out with. She took her work very seriously and had a great resolve to be the best detective to come out of Whammy's House.

Number three is this boy that everyone only knew as L. I had met his a few times but I've never actually seen him. I take that back, I had seen him once but it was from a distance and it was only for a few seconds. All I knew/know of said boy is that he is a few years older than me and that he is smarter than me as well. I only know this because Whammy, or Wateri, took it upon himself to personally train this boy to be the World's Greatest Detective. If there is anyone from Whammy's that I think could beat me in this game, it's this boy. For sure.

"Hadlee!" William's voice snaps me out of my thoughts. He has a worried look on his face and slight fear in his eyes. After I see his expression I realize that I have been scowling, and from the soreness of my face I have been for a good few minuets.

"Huh? What's that?" I was so deep in thought that I completely forgot I was in the middle of a conversation with William.

"I've been trying to get your attention for a few minuets now, you were mumbling again. But I asked if you were sure that you won't need me today and that I can have the day off."

"Oh. Yes, I'm sure. You deserve it. Anyway, I'll most likely be using today to review my Korean." It's not really a lie. I am indeed going to practice my Korean but that isn't my main objective for today.

***Time Skip***

William left the hotel for his day off a few hours ago. Since then I have went over my Korean and I'm basically fluent in their native tongue. Now I can finally look into figuring out who has me beat for the the title of World's Greatest Detective.

I decided to start out by searching for Lane first. Seeing as he was from America, and his accent sounded southern, I figure it would be best to search the southern state like Georgia, Louisiana, or Texas for something like a fire, murder, etc. that could cause a kid to end up at an orphanage.

After about forty five minuets of searching, I come across a newspaper clipping of a break-in where the thieves killed three of the four people who lived in the house. The only survivor was a the couple's youngest son. An intelligent boy named James Turner. The article had a picture of the boy and he looked exactly like a young Lane would look like.

This case is like I have a bunch of different puzzles with the pieces all mixed up and I have to go through and put each individual puzzle together before I can get the full picture of what I am looking for. Finding out Lane's real name and how he ended up at Whammy's is just one piece of the first puzzle. This is only just the beginning.
