Peter looks at me with kind eyes. He must see the worry in mine, because he takes my hand in his.
"Remember when you used to hate me? When you wanted to kill me?" He asks me.
"Yes." I simply say.
"Well, Nolan's going to go through the same thing. He'll learn that I can change, too. Eventually." Pan says reassuringly.
"Maybe..." He's not so good at pep talks.
"You've been through a lot of stress these last couple of months. I'm going to take you on a vacation. I'm going to take you to Neverland. I know you think it's all bad, but I'm going to show you the good parts."
"Alright." I say, looking deeper into his green eyes. I see hope.
We get up together, hand in hand, and go back through the window into the orphanage. The children are all running around, some are crying, some talking. Some have shots of terror on their faces. I guess the whole "going back to sleep" thing didn't work out too well for them.
"Let me handle this." Pan leans over and whispers in my ear. He unlatches our hands and uses his to put a green blanket over the children. The blanket disappears and they all seem confused.
"What happened?" One wide eyed little girl asks.
"You all were sleep walking and you just woke up. Now, go back to sleep and get some rest." He says.
The children all cuddle back in their beds, confused but surprisingly believing the story.
"Mind erase?" I whisper-ask Pan.
"Yep." He whispers back.
I then notice Nolan isn't in the room. Where did he go when we went outside?
"Pan?" I say, eyes staring forward.
"I don't know." He says noticing my worry, and not even having to ask.
We stand in silence for a couple of minutes and then Pan jolts up.
"The bathroom."
"What?" I ask, obviously confused.
"The bathroom. That's where I found him before. He must have seen us outside and not liked it. I'll go find him." He says while starting to walk away. I grab his wrist.
"I'll go." I say and leave the room without another word.
I walk through the hallways of the creaky old orphanage. I suddenly hear a noise.
Bang, a couple seconds go by, crash.
I follow the noises until I come to the bathroom. The door is slightly opened.
I open it all the way and look inside. I see Nolan. And I also see where the noises are coming from. He's pounding the mirror and throwing things around and making a mess. The mirror has already been cracked and blood is on it."Nolan?" I say, loud enough to hear, but quiet enough not to yell.
"Joey?" Nolan turns around. He gives me a blank look, and I stare at him back.
"What are you doing?" I ask.
"Are you happy with him?" He shoots at me, completely ignoring my question.
"Uh.." Is all I can say back.
"Are you happy when you hold hands with him? When you look into those devil green eyes?"
"I.."
"Are you?" He says louder.
"Yes." I say, trying sound strong.
Nolan takes a deep breath. And then with a single blow he pounds the mirror again. The whole thing shatters apart.
I run over to him and put my hands on his shoulders. They are moving up and down intensely, from all his heavy breathing.
"He's going to change. And you can't fix anything by going around breaking everything. Now, take a deep breath and look at me. It's going to be alright. I can take care of myself. I always have." I say, nodding, trying to get him to listen.
"I know, but, you're rubbing elbows with our childhood enemy. The one who threatened to tear us apart. The one who took away that one boy in place of me. Do you really want that to happen again?" He was talking about Charlie. I don't say anything about him back, but I do hold my ground.
"It won't, and if it does, I'll leave. I told you, I can take care of myself, I can do things on my own. And he really loves me. I've seen it in his eyes."
Nolan's P.O.V
The word "love" sends chills down my spine. He could never love. And what is she talking about, seeing it in his eyes?
"You can see things in his eyes?" I say sharply.
"Yes, I can. I know it sounds crazy, but you've seen a shadow taken me away, this should be the least bit of your worries." She tells me, hands still on my shoulders.
I just look at her.
"Do you trust me?" She asks.
I just stare some more.
"Do you trust me?" She repeats.
"I do."
"Than you have to believe me."
"Alright." I say, and with that, I realize something. My sister has always been there for me. And I've always been the only one she's loved. But now she's got someone else. Someone else to love and take care of. I know I sound selfish, but what if I lose her to Pan?
