Goodbye, My Love

Shuffling around the kitchen, I clutched the chocolate brown teddy bear tightly. I opened the fridge and absent-mindedly pushed stuff around. It was like nothing was appetizing. Oh well, Kiana expects me to eat at the send-off party.

I made my way down to my room. I gently laid the teddy bear on my bed and rummaged through my closet. Further down the closet I spied the dress that I had bought just for this occasion. It was an army green, plane stewardess-esque, and looked as if it was made of canvas. It had a sewn on "name tag" spot that I had specially had my name embroidered onto. I simply shoved it farther down the closet.

I opted for a satin, red, cocktail dress. I slipped on some red heels and curled my hair. I finished up my makeup, grabbed my phone and my keys, and headed down to Dev's.

When I arrived, I smiled. Kiana had strung a giant banner across the garage that red: I love you Dyevon!". I laughed softly. I was more than sure that she and Dev had gotten in a spat over it. He didn't really like when Kiana made a big deal out of things, especially him going to basic.

The driveway was full, so I parked out front of the house on the side of the road. I pulled my shoes off and walked across the lawn to the front door. "Ding a ling-ling!", went the musical doorbell. The door opened and I was immeadiatly immursed in hugs and kisses from various family members. I smiled and chatted with the overly chipper Cobeys until I finally made my way to Deyvon.

He smiled and pulled me aside from everyone, right into his arms, kissing me on the forehead softly. I was too stunned to pull away. I plastered a fake smile on my face and whispered through gritted teeth into his ear, "What the hell are you doing?"

"I didn't tell anyone.. Dad, Jason, Allie.. They all think we're still together. I assume you're the one that told my mum.", he whispered back.

I pulled away and nodded, "Of course. And we're going to tell everyone else."

A paniced look flew across Deyvon's face, "No!!"

"Why not? You're going to keep lying to them? Like you lied to Kiana?", I demanded angrily.

He gave me a pleading look, "Please quiet down! I don't want anyone to hear!" He gently placed a hand over my mouth. "Stop. I don't want to leave anyone heartbroken right before I leave to basic!", he growled quietly. I pushed him away. He realized what he had said, his eyes growing large and apologetic. "Oh my God. Josie, that's not what I meant!", he rambled.

"No. You did mean it, other wise you wouldn't have said it. Right?", I said through gritted teeth. I shook my head, 'I'll be leaving then, since I'm nobody." I turned and headed for Kiana.

"Josie! No!", Deyvon yelled out, grabbing for my hand. I pulled it out of his reach quickly and ran up to Kiana. I hugged her and whispered an apology, taking off through the open front door. I heard the heavy, thudding footsteps of Deyvon chasing after me. I ran right past my car, throwing my heels and my keys into the backseat. I kept running, as fast as I could. As a child, running had always been my facorite thing to do. The wind in my hair, the feeling of flying, it was an amazing feeling.

I could still hear Deyvon running behind me and I knew that sooner or later I would have to stop, or he would catch up. He had been doing a lot of running so that he could keep up at basic. I knew from running with him that I had only minutes before he caught up with me. I saw my house slowly come into veiw and picked up speed, running right into the front door with a loud audible "Smack!". I fumbled with the doorknob as Deyvon leaped up the steps. I flung the door open and run down the hall to my room, slamming the door behind me and locked it.

Deyvon hit his fist agains the door. "Dammnit Josie!", he yelled out in frustration. He hit the door a couple more times and I heard him slide to the ground and lean his back against the door. "Click, click, click, cliiiick, click." I could hear him typing a text and moments later I felt my phone go off.

I pulled it out of my pocket:

Deyvon<3:

Josie. Please. Let me. Everyone is wondering what the hell is going on...

I angrily texted back:

Gee. Guess what? I'm wondering what the heck is going on, too.

I stabbed the 'send' button and heard him groan through the door. More clicking and several seconds later, I felt my phone go off again:

Deyvon<3:

I'm going home. Goodbye Josie.

My heart began to break more than it had when he told me that he no longer wanted me. I stabbed each of the letters as I heard him walk away, feeling the hot, salty tears roll down my cheeks. I knew that I didn't mean these words, but the anger and the hurt got the best of me. The moment I saw my phone say: Message Sent, I knew I regretted it.

I hate you.

That was all I said. I waited hours for him to call me or come running back to my home. I waited to hear him beg and plead with me for a second chance. I knew that I was being pathetic, but isn't every girl after she gets her heart broken? I finally fell into a light sleep at twelve o'clock in the morning. Come two o'clock, I heard my phone buzz. I reached for it groggily and hit the 'Read Message' button:

Deyvon</3:

You don't mean that.

I felt like screaming. He didn't know that! Sure, I regretted telling him that I hated him, but how was he to know what I meant and what I didn't mean?! I replied:

Yes. Actually I do. Try not to die at basic. I don't want Kiana upset.

I sent it and threw my phone across the room, watching it bounce off the wall and fall to the floor. I threw the bear off the bed as well and stared at the ceiling until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer.
