Chapter Seven: Why me?

The week has finally come to an end. Adam and I have become a lot closer since the picnic, and it feels like we're heading towards the relationship status. But something keeps holding me back from it, like im not supposed to. I know that sounds a bit weird, but I believe in fate. I feel as if there is much more out there for me, but I also feel like I shouldn't be taking any chances. Besides, what chances would I even have at summer camp? Obviously nothing, but I'm willing to keep an open mind.

I got up out of bed and made my way to my bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror with disgust. God I am not a morning person. I started to get undressed for my bath, taking off my shirt and shorts when I stared down at my wrists. I traced my fingers along the old scars and farely new cuts and slowly began to tear up. When I cut, I don't feel any guilt at all. The pain helps me heal, it makes me feel like I'm in control of my hurt. Ever since my father passed away I had no one to have my back, no one to help me when I had trouble at school. Without him here with me I feel completely useless. I hopped into the shower and let the hot water fall down on my body. The sting of the steaming water on my fresh cuts was soothing. I took a few deep breaths and let out my tears again. Why did you have to leave Daddy? I miss you so much.

"Honestly Chloe if you do not hurry up you are going to miss that bus!" I heard my mother shout from the bottom of the stairs. I opened my door and tossed my luggage down the stairs to her feet. She looked up at me and stared for a good minute. I swear I could see the steam bursting out of her ears because of me. "I think this camp thing is going to do both of us a favour." She said. "I'm sure I'd do you a favour of not returning." I replied coldly. "Just get down here already young lady." I slowly walked down the stairs and walked right by her without hugging her goodbye. I picked up my luggage of clothes and headed out the door where my bus was waiting. This was one of my least favourite parts of camp. The bus ride there is a torture chamber they put kids in to smarten them up before they reach the camp. Little do they know it has very little effect on me. Never mind, they do know.. But they can just keep on dreaming. I am not getting involved in any social events, nor am I going to speak to anyone there.

"Hi Bella." I heard a familiar voice say. I stopped staring at the ground and looked up to see Adam staring right at me, with his usual grin placed upon his gorgeous face.

"Adam, what are you doing here?" I asked.

I finally reached him. He pulled his hands out of his pockets of his jeans, grinned even more and placed them around my waist, pulling me into a warm embrace. He smelled so amazing, it made my head spin and my heart beat ridiculously fast.

"I just came by here to say bye, and also give you this." He placed his soft mauve lips against mine into a longing kiss. Everything in my body was swirling around, creating butterflies to race in my tummy. After what seemed like forever, he pulled his lips apart from mine, and kissed the tip of my nose softly.

"Well, im glad you stopped by." I tried to say seductively. It probably didn't sound sexy at all.

He chuckled. "You are absolutely adorable Chloe. I hope you know that. Oh and I also have one more thing as well." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box and placed it into the palm of my hand. "Open it up".

I looked down at the box, and looked back up at him, curious to know what it was. I slowly opened the box up to see a gorgeous charm bracelet that had a bunch of charms on it. "Read them all" he said.

I pulled out the bracelet and looked at each charm. They all had one word on them. There was beautiful, strong, brave, sexy, hero, love, kind, and Adam. I looked back up at him, trying to hold back the tears that were trying to form. He took the bracelet from my hand and tied it around my wrist. I pulled my arm away before he could see the scars but he pulled it back. He looked down and pulled my sleeve up slowly. He took his fingers and traced the scars carved into my skin. I was shaking, I was so scared I didn't know what to do. No one has ever seen my scars before. Adam kissed my wrists and pulled me back into a big hug.

"My Bella, you are so strong and courageous. I won't let anyone harm you ever again and I won't let you harm yourself. Those scars do not define the kind of person you are Chloe. I want you to read those charms on the bracelet whenever you feel like you are going to self harm. And if they do not work, I want you to call me, and I will say them to you until you finally believe them yourself one day."

I stood in his embrace, holding on tightly as my tears began streaming down my face. The bus driver honked at us.

"I better go now. But thank you for the bracelet, its beautiful."

"Anything for you."

"Bye Adam."

"Bye beautiful." He kissed me one last time and led me to the stairs. I looked back down at him and smiled before I hopped on the bus to hell.

We finally reached the campsite a few hours later. I looked around and saw a whole bunch of kids screaming at old friends, and new ones. I had no one to see here, and no one I cared about. I don't even know why i'm here. This was a bad idea. I shouldn't have come here. I looked down at the bracelet and smiled. I rather would've spent my time with Adam. Atleast with him I felt normal, and not out of place.

I got off the bus to go find out where I was bunking. I walked out to the front office and headed inside.

"Name please."

"Chloe Stone"

"Okay you're in room 147, bunk bed D. Here is your key, please do not lose it, or you will be responsible to replace it."

"Thanks."

I was lucky enough that my room was just around the corner, these bags were killing my shoulders. My room looked like an old abandoned shack, but I guess that's what you get at camp. I opened the door to find that there was no one else in here. This room only had two beds in here which was strange. However, its much better sharing with one person than a whole bunch of screaming annoying girls. Hopefully this girl is decent atleast.

I threw my bags on the floor and got settled in my bed. I laid there staring at the bracelet Adam gave me. I still cannot believe that he found out about my scars. I really hope he doesn't mention anything to my mom. The bracelet was the only thing giving me comfort right now.

"HELLO?"

I lifted my head up to see the door opening.

"Hi." I replied back.

The door flew open. I looked up to see Amanda standing in my doorway.

"Chloe? You're my roommate?"

"Well, arn't you lucky.." I replied sarcastically.

"I can go ask to see if we can switch rooms if I am going to be a bother."

"No it's fine. I'll live. Besides its gonna be next to impossible to switch now."

"So how are you?"

"Peachy."

"Well that's good. You look good by the way."

"Thanks."

"Look Chloe, I'm sorry. I don't know what got over me. I never meant to hurt you. I just got caught up with all the attention I was getting from him. I truly am sorry!"

The anger in me began to broil. I sat up and glared at her.

"You know Amanda, I would have expected that from someone else but not from my own bestfriend. But whatever, it's fine. I can forgive you, however I will never forget this. And this does not mean that we are friends again."

"Well.. I guess that's fair. Thank you."

I laid back down and curled up into a ball.

"How's Adam?"

I turned back at her. "How do you know about Adam?"

"Everyone knows. He's a hottie by the way. Good job scoring that one."

"We're great actually, things couldn't be better."

"Did you guys do it yet?"

I looked back at her in disgust. "That's none of your business."

"Sorry."

"If you don't mind, I'm gonna take a nap."

"No problem. I'm gonna head out to see what events are on tonight."

"Bye."
