Short I know, but I really can't keep writing 2 thousand words at a time. One it's taking too long and two I just can't. I should've had this chapter out almost a month ago, soo yeah. Enjoy and I'll try posting up more frequently now. :)
It's been a couple of weeks since I'd gotten sick. But now I was back to my usual self which seemed to make both Miky and Marcus happy. But lately I've been getting worried about them. It seems that every time I turn around, their whispering. And sometimes when they think I'm sleeping, they're standing in the hallway talking in hushed voices.
But every time I approached them about it, they acted clueless. Each time they became more and more cautious.
It confused me as to why they were avoiding me. But after a few days I began to keep my thoughts to myself. Sometimes I would look over and see them talking with one another across the room, and occasionally one would glance at me.
"Hey Foxy." I walked to the kitchen's entrance and stared at Miky who was sitting on the couch. "Yes?" "We're goin' out, and we were wondering if you wanted to come with us." "Sure." I dried my hands on my jeans and left to put my shoes on. When I returned downstairs, both of them were standing at the front door.
"Took you long enough. I was beginning to wonder if you were still coming." I rolled my eyes as I passed Marcus who watched me with a smirk plastered onto his face.
I ended up in the backseat again, not that I cared, but Miky was faster at calling shotgun. My eyes watched the trees and houses go past; Miky and Marcus sat up front joking around. The radio blasted rock music that hurt my ears, but I didn't say anything. After all, it wasn't the music that hurt, it was the volume that Miky had turned it up to.
About a month or so ago, we'd moved out of the house that I'd been living in all my life, to one that was on the outskirts of town. It was a two story family home with a basement and attic; it sat regally among the trees that surrounded it.
I liked it better there because I no longer had the constant reminder of my former life, and I could roam about without receiving strange looks.
I watched pedestrians walk on the sidewalks or cross the road. Many different scents filled the air and mixed together. It was a Sunday, so as we passed by a pet store, there were people with animals up for adoption outside. What surprised me was when Marcus directed the car towards the store.
I gave a quizzical look in the rear view mirror, but said nothing. As we stepped out and walked over, I paused. There were a few ladies out front of the store on the sidewalk with dogs sitting in cages or being walked. But there was one that caught my eye.
He had the coloring of a German Shepard but his face reminded me of a Rot. He was pacing about the cage, anxious and wanting out. I tore my gaze away from the gorgeous animal, but not before Marcus noticed, and stole a glance at him too. "He's pretty."
I nodded. We continued to walk inside. Miky said we were just here to look, not that we were actually getting one, though we might. I followed around, making sure to stay close to Marcus; there were too many people here for my liking. And it was too loud. Other dos in the store would come over and check me out, but miraculously, not a single one of them barked.
Eventually we made it out of there with Miky getting a whole bunch of cat stuff, including a cat. Miky named her Syrene; she was a black cat with auburn eyes and white splotches on her chest and stomach. As much as I like the cat, she couldn't shut up for the life of her.
We loaded up the car and Miky sat in the passenger seat petting Syrene through the holes in the box. I made to get in but Marcus stopped me by lacing an arm around my waist and pulling me away.
"Not yet, there's still something we have to get." I was confused. I thought we'd already gotten everything.
Marcus led me back to the front of the store and over to one of the adoption ladies. "Yes?" "We'd like to adopt." "Alright then." She beamed and got out a few papers and handed them to Marcus for him to sign and fill out. "Who will it be?" I looked at the lady and then at Marcus.
"What do you think Foxy?" I looked around at the different animals in the different cage' I was looking for one in specific. I fund him over by the far door and pointed to him. "What about him?"
Marcus nodded and filled out the papers. "What's his name?" I asked the lady. He was an older dog, but still a puppy. She led me over to his cage while Marcus finished with the paper work.
"This is Diesel."
