Rain pattered on roofs and knocked on knackered doors. Windows were streaked with tears.
The car drove slowly on, wipers swinging back and forth, as the elements tried to infiltrate our peace. Destin's soft ears slid smoothly through my fingers. I guided my hand down his neck, around his slim sholders, and down his front paws to where they lay in my lap. His tail flicked in agreement and he placed his head on his paws.
The vehicle made a smooth turn to the left, then to the right, the winding roads of the countryside seemed somewhat soothing in the rain's presence. As I stared out through the window, time froze for a moment. The rain halted mid-fall, trees slowed their swaying and birds stopped their wings. I opened my mouth a little in awe, as I gazed into the soul of a fox. It's hazel eyes stared straight back at me with defence, fear and a hint of curiosity. A young rabbit had fallen prey to the predator, it's eyes dull and dead. It hung, from the blood smeared mouh of the fox, limp and lifeless in the dawning sun rays.
The trees proceeded to sway, rain resumed its fall and birds continued their flight. The sun rose higher in the sky, turning the sky pink, illuminating the darkness above.
