The Changed Ones

Sixteen

The group immediately ran out into the lobby area, where several zombies were stuck behind glass doors. Surely enough, one of those zombies was Selena. She had the same exact look as she did before, except with blood all over her, her eyes bloodshot, and her mouth salivating with blood.

"I-It is Selena!" Lucy exclaimed.
"Oh my god! It kills me to see her like this!" Dayna cried.
"Just remember what you guys told us, it's not her!" Lily recalled.
"Y-You're right..." Lucy nodded. "It's not her!"

Lucy began loading her gun. She approached the door, stopping to look at Selena. She pointed the gun at her. Just then, Selena gave her a look that made Lucy put her gun down. Tears began filling her eyes.

"What the hell are you doing?" Mark asked.
"I-I can't do it!" Lucy confessed. "She just gave me this look, as if it were her own self recognizing me inside of that zombie taking her over!"
"Then we'll shoot her! We barely know her!" Felix suggested.
"No!" Lucy exclaimed.
"Oh... So you won't let us kill your friend, who is now an actual zombie, but you forced Jackie to kill her own boyfriend before he even became one?" Lily yelled. "That makes perfect god damn sense!"
"So what? Are you just letting these zombies come in and kill us?" Bob asked.
"No!" Lucy shouted.
"Are you just going to try and kill the other zombies but not Selena? Is that it?" Felix asked.
"I-I dunno!" Lucy stressed.

Just then, she pressed her hands against her face. Followed that was the sound of a gunshot, the sound of glass breaking, and a thumping noise. Lucy looked over, noticing zombie Selena lying on the floor, dead. She looked over in the other direction as she noticed Jackie with a gun pointing in Selena's direction.

She had just killed Selena.

Everybody was silent. Nobody even reacted.

Jackie then lowered the gun.

"I guess that makes me the person that has to go and kill everybody." She mumbled before walking away.

Everybody then turned to Lucy, who thought she would be mad, but she looked like she was more in a trance, possibly processing in her mind what just happened.

After a few more moments, she snapped back into reality. She then looked at everybody.

"Go ahead and take care of the rest of them, I'll be right back." Lucy demanded.

Everybody nodded and took out their weapons. Lucy then went down into the auditorium area, where Jackie had just walked down and sat in one of the front row areas.

"Lemme guess, you're pissed off at me..." Jackie asked her.
"N-No not at all..." Lucy answered. "But... How were you able to do it?"
"With a gun..." Jackie responded sarcastically.
"Jackie..." Lucy said, demanding a real explanation.
"Well, after seeing you guys freak out over Selena being a zombie, somebody had to stop them!" Jackie explained.
"But the way you did it, the way you looked... You looked like you weren't even concerned or worried about it, you just did it to get it over with!" Lucy described.
"Well, after having to face the real challenge of killing Sean, I think my concerns and worries are over me now." Jackie explained. "At this point, I'm just doing this stuff to end it."
"I know how you feel..." Lucy said. "I feel the same way too..."
"Then why isn't it?" Jackie asked. "Why isn't a rescue team here to look for survivors and get rid of these zombies?"
"Maybe they need more people, or more weapons." Lucy explained.

Jackie shook her head.

"I swear to god if we're stuck here another week..." Jackie said. "I don't even know what day of the week it is!"
"Friday, June 17." Lucy responded.

Jackie then rolled her eyes. "Of course it is..."
"Why? What's today supposed to be?" Lucy asked.
"January 17 of last year, Sean and I first met." Jackie explained.
"Oh..." Lucy said. Jackie nodded.

Just then, the rest of the group came into the auditorium.

"That seems to be the last of them for now." Felix explained.
"The sun is rising though..." Malakai explained. "So we should probably get going soon."
"No..." Lucy shook her head. "We're staying here at least a few hours longer to rest. We need as much sleep as we can get."

The group didn't say anything, they only nodded. They all then decided to go back and get some sleep.

Sorry for taking so long with making this chapter! There were lots of things going on between work, college and other stuff that's kept me from working on my stories. Hopefully this weekend I can get a break and make some more chapters! Thanks for your patience!
