Asha's Path Book 1: Famine

Prologue

"Mama, will you put me down?"

Minty shook her head slightly. "I can't until we get to the clearing."

The small kitten lowered her head and closed her eyes.

Minty continued walking as her daughter fell asleep.

Finally she neared the clearing and saw two large shapes in the mist.

The crisp dawn air made her fur brush up. Finally spring had come and sadly it was time to give up her daughter.

"About time you showed up, Minty." One of the shapes called to her.

She walked until she was a few paw steps away.

"We had a deal, remember? I allow my daughter to be mated to your son. Then you leave my barn alone."

Alex flicked his tail. "I remember. You came up with the barn part."

Minty's claws unsheathed. She gently placed Snowy on the ground behind her.

"I understand that. Listen to me. I want this over an done with. I want my daughter home, ready to bear kittens in a year's time."

Alex began to growl.

"Stop, the both of you." Ambrose hissed. "This isn't helping anyone. For God's sake."

Her voice softened as she gazed at the white bundle. "Look at her. How could anyone lay a claw on her?"

Minty smiled slightly. "She looks like my mother."

Ambrose purred at her. "Trust me. Snowy will be fine when we take her to our camp. I promise."

"I know she will, Ambrose. I just... It's hard."

"I know, I know. But it'll all be worth it. You'll have grandkids by the time she's old enough!"

"Enough of this crap," Alex growled. "Can we leave please?"

Ambrose glared at her mate. "Yes. Come on."

Ambrose picked up Snowy and Storm by the scruffs of their necks.

"They'll be fine. They'll get along perfectly. I promise."

"I know."

Minty watched as the cats padded away. Minty felt tears come to her eyes as she saw her daughter being taken away into the dawn mist.

"I love you, Snowy. Forever."

This is the first legitimate chapter of my book. This is also going to become a graphic novel that I will be drawing and writing.

This is a book that I have written and drawn for a long time.

The graphic novella will be available on my deviantART page. I will put a link to it in this book somewhere. I won't be starting the novella until I've finished writing the book.
