The next couple of weeks flew by quickly. We prepared  my mother's funeral and arranged for me to live with my aunt while we sorted things out. I spent more time with Jake than I normally do, and he was always there to keep me from falling apart. My mother's death changed me in ways that scared everybody. My normal bright skinny jeans and graphic tees turned to black everything. My normally natural makeup turned to dark, black, and heavy eyeliner and eyeshadow. Everybody but Jake found my "emo" life repulsive. He was even brave enough to finally let loose and do what he's always wanted to do and dressed how I did.

We were always labeled as the emos, fags, freaks, and goths but we didn't care. We became closer than ever and secluded oursleves from everybody and spent our time on music. One afternoon, as we were sitting in Jake's room, he told me about how he was moving to California to pursue his dream of being a guitar player for a rock band.

"What? That's amazing! I'm so happy for you! Maybe there you can finally get noticed." I formulated a plan to get my aunt to let me move with him. We sat and talked about his dream and California for a few more hours until my aunt came to get me. I kissed him on the cheek and gave him a quick smile. "Bye beautiful." I heard him whisper. It was so soft that I didn't think I had heard him right.

As my aunt and I were driving home, I brought up the move. "Jake's moving to Cali after school ends. Isn't that awesome?" She nodded her head and gave me a mischievous smile. That confused me. What was she hiding? I was so caught up in my thoughts I hadn't realized we were home.

"Kat! Hon, are you ok? I've been calling your name for about five minutes. We're home." I blushed and got out of the car. I headed up to my room to wait for dinner. I was extremely tired, so I plopped down on my bed and slowly drifted off to sleep...

~Jake's POV~

"God, mom she's so.... Clueless!" I ranted sitting at the dining room table. I was in love with Kat and everybody could tell except for her. My mom, Carolyn, giggled and sighed. "Trust me Jake, she'll come around. You two are perfect for eachother."

I ran a hand through my long, black hair. I knew she was right but I couldn't help but wonder if Kat truly didn't feel the same about me. I shuddered slightly at the thought and went up to my room. I layed down in my bed and dozed off with her beautiful eyes imprinted into my brain.
