That evening, after heading back down to the kitchen, I went to get my sketch pad. When I'm drawing, I never really think. I just draw. When I was done, I realized I drew Jake. He was tall, but not much taller than me. His long black hair framed his beautiful face. He had high cheekbones and a hard jawline. His eyes were green flecked with yellow and brown. They were gorgeous. I drew on the special half smile that showed all of his perfect teeth and whispered, "Perfect."
"What was that, Kat?" Aunt Jamie asked with a small smile. I felt my cheeks burn and mumbled something under my breath, trying to hide my sketch pad from her. She saw it though, and her smile grew wider.
"That's excellent Kit-Kat! You should draw a picture for everybody then give them as gifts!" I cringed at my childhood nickname. I've changed so much since then, but I did like her idea. I got started right away. I drew Jamie. She is absolutely gorgeous. She looks so much younger than her 35 years. She has shoulder length red hair that waves and frizzes in odd directions. Her eyes were a piercing green color, and they were flecked with yellow. She had laugh lines and freckles spotted her face.
I wasn't thinking much, just having fun. I didn't realize I was drawing my mom until after. I studied the page and choked on my tears. My aunt looked at the sketch and I could tell she was doing the same. She quickly excused herself and went to her room. I touched the sketch, remembering exactly how she used to look. She had soft, short, wavy brown hair that always made her look younger. She had brown eyes that were like melted chocolate. I missed her and her bubbly personality. She always made me laugh, even on the worst possible days.
I sighed, then went to check on my aunt. "Jamie? Are you okay? I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"It's ok honey. Really, it is." She said with only a slight waver to her voice. She smiled and patted the bed next to her. I went to her and we curled up with eachother. Me and Jamie have always been close.
We talked about anything and everything. After a few hours, aunt Jamie told me to call Jake because he had something to tell me. "But don't talk too long! It's your last day of school tomorrow!" She called out as I bolted up the stairs to my room. I dialed Jake's number and breathed a sigh of comfort at hearing his soft, deep voice.
"Hey Kitty what's up?" I giggled at the sweet nickname he's called me ever since we were little. "Nothing much. Jamie said you had something to tell me?" I replied, extremely curious.
"Hmmm.... So I can finally tell you?" Huh? What does he mean by "finally?"
"Well it looks like mom and Jamie have been talking, and it seems that you're gonna move to California with me." I could hear the excitement in his voice. I let out a squeal and jumped on my bed for a while. After I had calmed down, we talked for a while before I said I was tired.
"I love you." He said softly.
"What did you say?" I sputtered. He muttered a quick goodbye and hung up.
What was that all about? I was extremely confused by Jake's recent behavior. He had gotten into the habit of whispering sweet things under his breath and getting alot more cuddly. I began to think that he had feelings for me. And the more I thought about it, the more I thought I had feelings for him too. I sighed and turned out my light. I soon fell asleep with my bestfriend on my mind. Or was he more?
