Chapter 1
~THE IRON MAIDEN SHIRT~
A trampoline, a can of Grapico (I mean who drinks Grapico now?) I didn't think I would meet Jordan Reed jumping on a trampoline and occasionaly sipping an almost extinct brand of soda. But to tell you the truth I didn't think I would ever meet the ever so arrogant and egoistic Jordan Reed.
It was my first day in junior grade. I had my locker organized and had a picture of Hilary Clinton taped on the door of the locker. My skirt was of the perfect length and so was my hair. Slinging the green jansport bag over my shoulder. I made my way down the hall. In another instance I wouldn't even have glanced at the trampoline but the situation changes when I see my brother. As I cross the school lawn, there sitting in the middle of the lawn is an un-authorized (I know because I am a school leader) trampoline. And Sean who is unfortunately my brother is about to jump on it.
"Sean!!!" I shout as I near him, "What the hell are you doing?" I tug on him.
"What?" he makes one of his so-common irritated face.
"Sean..come on" Someone called from the other side of the trampoline. That was the first time I heard his voice. His dark hair was scrunched up in uneven quiffs. He wore a navy blue over-shirt under which his iron maiden shirt was flashing.
"Coming!" my brother lightened up and ignoring my question he went towards the guy. I quickly tugged on his arm,
"I want this out." I point to the trampoline and get out of the lawn.
I was almost getting late for my first class of the year, Literature. I attempted to run but that was a fail. Finally I reached the third room. Mr. Janice had just sat on his chair. I quietly entered and sat on the only free bench which was at the back of the class.
"Everybody turn to page 4. We will today be starting Much Ado About Nothing, the evergreen Shakespeare play."
Just then,
"Excuse me Sir!" I was noting down some prepoints when I hear that scruffy voice again. I look up and its the iron maiden guy. The can of Grapico still in his hand.
"First Day!" Mr Janice looks at him with his glasses at the tip of his nose. The boy enters and takes a seat right beside me.
"So we shall continue.." and Mr. Janice starts again.
I look at him from the corner of my eye not because I like him or something, just because I am irritated by him. He sits on his seat spreading his legs and still sipping on the Grapico.
"You're Sean's sister?" I look up as I hear his voice.
"And you are his useless friend." I reply,
"Not necessarily I am also known as Jordan Reed." he explains with a smile.
"Whatever..I know that trampoline idea is yours, better get rid of that." I say firmly.
"And what makes you so sure?"
"Your appearence."
"Be careful with your judgements Ms. Dawson." He replies still with that uncanny smile.
"You don't tell me.." as I was charging on Jordan Reed, I got cut off by Mr. Janice.
"Ms. Dawson and Mr. Reed collect your detention slips on your way out and it will be better appreciated if you both keep quiet through the class."
"But.." I try to retaliate but it's useless.
My first day and my first ever detention. I look to my left at him and he is calmly gulping his soda like nothing happened.
The bell rings as I read the lines,
"Don John- Let me be that I am and seek not to alter me."
