Break-time.
Break-time, the most chaotic part of the day.
The girls immediately ran squealing into the Ladies, wanting to hear the latest gossip and fashion styles.
The older boys went outside and kicked footballs at the Year 5's and Year 6's who screamed and cried and dashed to get the teachers.
Then those teachers tried to keep things orderly and calm but they got trampled down by the swarm of all the Year 8's - apart from me and Paul - getting outside because Seth Serson had farted or Terrence Daniels had burped in someone's face.
Personally, I thought that Paul and I were the most normal people in Kingsley Academy. Everyone else acted like picky poodles or buffoonish baboons or loner sheep.
As Paul and I spilled out onto the vast playground, I saw Penny, dawdling near Danielle and some of her friends. She didn't seem interested in their conversation. Plus, they weren't involving her in it. It was probably about celebrities or boyfriends.
She sat down on the edge of the bench and looked at her hands.
Paul saw me looking at her.
"Jesus Christ, Sparrow. Are you in love or something? You're always looking at her and she's only been here for two lessons!" he exclaimed jokingly.
"Uh...No, of course I'm not!" I retaliated harshly.
I felt my cheeks burning red and my hands sweating. I shook my head, letting my neatly combed floppy brown hair brush my face.
Paul just looked at me funnily and said,
"Come on, let's play 'It',"
In response, I charged at him, tapped him on the shoulder and yelled,
"You're It!" at him.
He grinned and ran over to me.
We found Mike, Harvey and Jack and proceeded to play It until five minutes after breaktime had officially ended.
The teachers went on a huge search party for half the school as the sensible students or pupils that had been found slowly plodded up the stairs to collect their bags then go to next lesson.
Penny was nimbly darting and dodging the people in her way. As she came past me, she slowed down
"Sparrow, do you know what lesson is next?" she asked me.
"I have Maths. It depends on what set you're in. I'm in Set 1 and we have Maths," I replied, not lookking at her.
I glanced at her and saw her ice blue eyes looking right into me. It was if she was finding my deepest inner secrets and peeling out my insides to see who I was under my green eyes and freckled cheeks.
"I'm in Set 1 too. And thanks for the help," she whispered then dashed off to Maths on the second floor.
