Chapter 19

"He's fine." The doctor announces, smiling. 

"Yes!" I exclaim, placing my early birthday present back into the bag and standing up. 

"Can we see him?" I quickly ask. 

"Not yet, soon though. We have a canteen you can wait in." He offers. 

"No thanks." Pepper declines. 

"Actually, i haven't eaten in about a day. Pepper, do you have any money i could borrow please, I'll pay you back." I ask, she smiles and searches her pockets. 

"I left my purse at home, sorry." 

"Its alright, I'll get something later." 

"James is coming." 

"Ill ring him." I say, the doctor walks away and march outside, taking my mask and placing it on. 

"Jarvis, ring James." I demand, Lieutenant James Rhodes contact appears in my face, he answers. 

"Tony? What the hell are you doing in your suit, you're supposed to be in hospital." James shouts. 

"James, its Skye." I whisper. 

"Oh, i saw the Iron Man suit come up and i thought you were Tony." 

"No, i built my own suit to go and save him." I explain. 

"How is he? Im about ten minutes away from the hospital." He tells me. 

"He went into surgery, he's okay. Can you do me a favour please?" I ask. 

"Sure, what is it?" 

"Can you pick me up a mcdonalds on your way please. Im so hungry!"

I step into the small room, the machines beep constantly. My dad is sat up in the hospital bed, a transparent tube thread into his nose. 

"Dad?" I ask as i step up to his bed. His eyes flicker open and i smile. 

"Hey kiddo. Nice suit." He says, a huge grin on his face. 

"Thanks." I begin. "Don't ever scare me like that again!" I shout. He sighs and smiles. 

"I won't, sorry." 

"Its okay." I whisper. 

"Who else is here?" He asks. 

"Pepper, James... and Zeke was here." I explain saying Zeke very quietly. 

"How is it with him?" 

"I told him i needed time. When i look at him, all i see is the pain and hatred he felt when he was on the drug." I explain, shaking my head. 

"You were brave though. Im proud of you." He admits, smiling. 

"Braveness runs in our genes." I tease. I hear a knock on the door and Pepper strolls in, races over to dad and kisses him. 

"Don't ever do that to us again." She scolds. 

"Skye already made me promise." He points out and smiles at me. 

"Where's James?" Pepper asks me. 

"He forgot my mcdonalds, so i made him go get it." I explain. Pepper sends me a glare but dad just laughs. 

There's a knock at the door and James marches in, carrying a mcdonalds bag. 

"Thanks James." I say as i take the bag. 

"You owe me a tenner." He points out. 

"I know, I'll pay you later." I reply as i dig in to my food. I offer it around but don't offer any to my dad.
