* Vic's POV *

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I laid on my hotel bed, clutching my picture of Carter and crying my eyes out. I missed her so much. Things would be so much easier if she was still here. I fell asleep with tear stained cheeks and a crumpled picture of my love.

--

"Vic!" I jolted awake to the sound of someone yelling my name. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, looking around the hotel room. Carter sat on the only chair in the room, her legs pulled up to her chest and her arms wrapped around them. When she saw that I was up, she got up and walked over to me. I stayed still, shocked. Here she was, standing right in front of me. She held out her arms and I jumped up and hugged her, crying on her shoulder.

"Shhh, Vic. It's okay. You're okay." She rubbed my back soothingly, whispering in my ear. I pulled back, shaking my head.

"I am not okay." She nodded, smiling sadly.

"You're going to be okay. Once you let me go, you'll be okay." I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out.

"I know that you promised, Vic. But circumstances changed." I was still speechless. I couldn't let her go. I couldn't forget about her. She meant the world to me.

"You don't have to forget about me, Vic. You just have to move on." She placed her hand on my cheek, looking me in the eye. "I want you to be happy."  Tears streamed down my face as she spoke.

"I can't be happy without you." She shook her head, smiling knowingly.

"You have Megan. She makes you happy, you know she does. You're just in denial. You have to let me go, Vic. Megan will make you happy. You guys will last a long time. She'll be good for you." I shook my head stubbornly. Carter wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me, kissing my cheek. I wrapped my arms around her and closed my eyes.

"I love you, Vic."

"I love you, Carter."

When I opened my eyes, she was gone.

"Carter!" I yelled, looking around for her. I ran to the door and opened it, only to see darkness.

"Let me go, Vic. You have to let me go."

--

I jolted awake to the sound of my ringtone going off. I wiped my tears away and glanced at the chair in the corner of the room. Empty. I answered the phone before checking to see who it was, so I was caught off guard.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Vic!"

"Oh, hey Megan." I got up and walked over to the small table where the ice bucket sat, grabbing a cup and chewing on some ice. I happened to glance down at the hotel stationary and saw six words scribbled in Carter's messy handwriting.

Go for her. Let me go.

I started choking on my ice, looking away and coughing into my arm. When I looked back, the stationary was blank.

"Vic, are you okay?" Megan asked, sounding worried. I caught my breath and rubbed my eyes, knowing what I had to do.

"Yeah, I'm fine. So, uh, tonight, we're having this celebration thing since Devan and Jaime found a house. Do you wanna go with me, maybe?" I stammered, nervous. Megan was silent for a long time and after a minute I started to panic.

"Megan?"

"Yeah." I paused, confused.

"Yeah what?"

"Yeah. I'll go with you." I sighed in relief, smiling. It felt like a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.

"Great. I'll pick you up in an hour." I hung up and texted Jaime to let him know what was going on, and then I headed out, stopping to pick up flowers before heading to Megan's.

* Devan's POV *

"So he's okay?" I asked Jaime, reading Vic's text message over his shoulder. He nodded, locking his phone and smiling at me.

"Yeah, he's okay. You almost ready to go?" I nodded, spinning around to show him my outfit. Most of my clothes didn't fit me anymore because of the baby, but I found a nice black top and some jeans for our dinner tonight. We were going to the nicest restaraunt in town, so everyone was slightly dressed up. Jaime was wearing a white button up shirt with dark jeans and Mike and Tony were wearing their nicest t shirts and jeans. I laughed when they walked through my front door, realizing that they really didn't dress up that often. Vic was picking up Megan, so the four of us headed to the restaraunt without him.

When we got there, Vic and Megan were already there waiting for us. We got out of the car and Jaime took my arm, leading us all into the restaraunt. I smiled at Vic and Megan, who looked very happy together. They smiled back and sat next to me at the table. Tony sat next to Jaime and Mike ended up between Vic and Tony. The table was a circle, so everyone was sitting next to someone and we could all see each other.

"So, I hear that you two found a house finally?" Megan asked, starting up a conversation about the house, its size, the price. Then we drifted into talking about the baby, tour, and anything and everything else. Megan was really nice and easy to talk to. I smiled at Vic, knowing that they would b a couple like Jaime and I. I could already tell by the way that they acted around each other. Vic loved Megan and whether he knew it or not, Megan loved him back. I asked the waiter for a refill on my drink and thought that I saw a smiling Carter a few tables away, but when I looked back, she was gone.

"You okay?" Jaime murmured, leaning close to me. I smiled and nodded, getting immersed in the conversation again.

We had crab and some kind of pasta that I couldn't identify for dinner, which was very good. Then for desert, we had some kind of fancy chocolate cake. At first I was nervous to try all of this stuff, since I'm so used to McDonald's and other fast food, but it turned out to be delicious. Towards the end of dinner, Jaime waved down the waiter and whispered in his ear. The waiter nodded and hurried away. I raised an eyebrow but Jaime just brushed it off and started talking to Tony about something. I decided not to question it, turning to Megan.

"So, when's the wedding?" Megan asked, remembering the proposal. I shrugged, not having planned a single thing for the wedding.

"I honestly have no idea. I've been so caught up in everything else that I haven't started planning for the wedding. I probably won't start for a while longer. It's only been about a week since the proposal, but it seems like it's been months and I'm so far behind." I said, laughing.

"Wow." Megan said, looking at Vic. "It's only been a week." I thought that she was talking about when they met, but I didn't get to ask because the conversation was interrupted by music. I looked over and Jaime is standing in front of an acoustic band by our table, smiling at me. I recognized the song as Unbroken Promise by Erick Baker and wondered what was going on.

{ Might be just me, but I'd say it's a good idea to either listen to the song from the sidebar or look it up, that way you know what he's singing. xD. }

"Devan, my last proposal wasn't exactly something super special, so I figured I'd try again." Jaime said, walking towards me and getting down on one knee beside my chair. I faintly heard Megan gasp beside me and a few people in surrounding tables 'aww'ed, but I wasn't paying attention to them. My eyes were locked on Jaime.

"We've known and loved each other for about four years now, and they've been the most amazing years of my life. We broke up for a short amount of time, and I can hands down say that that short amount of time was the darkest period in my life. I was so lost and broken without you. When you left me, you took my heart with you. I love you and our baby with everything in me and I don't want to ever lose you again. I know you say that you're already mine, but I want to make it official. Devan Williams, will you marry me?" He pulled out a ring box and opened it, revealing a small but beautiful diamond ring. Tears formed in my eyes as I nodded and he slid the ring onto my finger, standing up and pulling me with him. He grinned and wrapped his arms around my waist, leaning down to kiss me. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back, happy tears streaming down my cheeks.

"An unbroken promise from this broken man, to love you the best that I can. So baby, please take off your coat. Oh, and I'll turn off the lights. Cause baby, I made plans to stay the rest of my life."
