* VIC'S POV *

"Hey, I need to go..do something real quick. Hang out with Vic for a bit while I'm gone." I looked up from my phone and saw Jaime kiss Devan and give her a look before leaving. Mike, Tony and I came over after Devan and Jaime found their house. We were supposed to be going out tonight to celebrate, so Tony and Mike were out getting things ready. I had no idea what Jaime was doing.

"So..." Devan sat down beside me on the couch and crossed her legs, nervously cracking her fingers. I looked at her and waited for her to spit out whatever was bothering her.

"I need to talk to you about Megan." I sighed, glancing at my phone. I had gotten a text from Megan earlier in the day that I had never replied to. She asked if I wanted to go on a date tomorrow night, our last free night before finishing this tour.

"What about her?" I asked, trying to remain indifferent. I really liked Megan, I might even be falling for her, but I can't date her. I can't do that to Carter.

"Do you like her?" Devan looked me in the eye, waiting for my answer though I'm sure she already knew. I waited a long time and then nodded once.

"Are you gonna date her...?" I sighed, letting my head fall into my hands. Devan shifted on the couch, staying silent as I thought.

"I don't know, Devan. I really like her. I might even be falling for her. But I just can't...I promised Carter-..." I didn't finish the sentence, remembering that day with Carter.

"Promised Carter what?" I made eye contact with Devan and took a deep breath before beginning to tell the story.

"CARTER! I told you that they were coming today!" Devan yelled, trying to wake Carter up as I walked down the stairs to her bedroom. The date was February 5th of this year, just months before Carter died and also Carter's birthday. We had a free day the day before plus that day and the next, so we came to wish Carter a happy birthday.

"Mm. Give me a few more hours." I chuckled at the sight of the two; Devan dressed with make up on, and Carter with bed hair and old pajamas. Devan sighed and looked at me, motioning for me to take over.

"I give up. She's all yours." Devan left, going upstairs to find Jaime. I walked over to Carter's bed where she was lying motionless, nearly back to sleep.

"Carter, wake up." I sat down next to her head and brushed her hair out of her face. She opened her eyes, squinting at me and smiling.

"Let me sleep, babe." She mumbled, making me grin. Carter and I weren't dating, but we both loved each other. Unfortunately, she didn't want to be anything more than 'just friends'.

"It's your birthday! Don't you want to go have some fun?" She laughed and wrapped her arm around my waist, laying her head on my leg.

"Sleeping is fun." I rolled my eyes and stood up, making her groan.

"Get up willingly or else." She raised an eyebrow, challenging me. I struggled to keep a straight face.

"Or else what?"

"Do you really wanna find out?" She nodded, crossing her arms behind her head nonchalantly. I stayed still for a second and then swooped down, sliding one arm under her knees and the other behind her back and lifting her off of the bed before she could say "Oh shit."

"Vic! Put me down!" She yelled, squirming. I walked towards the stairs, ignoring her efforts to get out of my hold.

"WAIT! Don't take me upstairs! I look like hell!" I stopped on the third step and looked down at her, wondering what she would do if I put her down. If she went back to bed, it would be harder to get her up because she would be ready this time.
