"Elora, hurry up! You're going to be late to school." My mum calls from the bottom of the stairs. How do I know this while barely wake? Because this happens pretty regularly, I oversleep and my poor mother has to scream her head off to wake me up at 7:30am.

I groggily get up and longingly stare at my pillow. No c'mon Elora get ready so you can actually look decent to school today. Now I'm not one of those girls that naturally look like a model, I mean I look alright with my hazel eyes and brown hair, but I still like to wear a little makeup. I make my way to the bathroom and do my daily sanitary routine, then walk over to my closet. I pick out a pair of dark blue high-waisted skinny jeans, with a short simple sleeveless white top and a black cardigan. I then brush my hair and put it in a high messy ponytail, and finish by putting on a winged eyeliner and some concealer to cover up any imperfections.

I grab my school bag and make my way downstairs to the smell of eggs and beans on toast. I am from England but moved to America 4 years ago when I
was 13, but traditional English food has still stuck with me.

"So you doing anything interesting today?" I ask my mum whilst cutting through the toast.

"Well, I'm just going to head over to the doctors for a normal check-up, I'll be back before 3" she says with a distant tone, looking away from me.

She's been doing this a lot lately, coming up with weird excuses to go out, but I don't blame her, while my dad is at work most of the time abroad so she probably gets bored around the house. When we lived in England she used to work as a hairdresser, but ever since we moved here she stopped, and said that she wanted to be with me so I don't feel neglected while both of my parents are working.

"Mum, are you su-" I was cut off by the sound of a car horn, which indicates my best friends arrival. She always takes me to and from school since she has her driving licence, I could prepare for mine since my 17th birthday is in a week, but honestly I can't be bothered right now when I have my own private chauffeur.

I give my mum a pointed look, and say "We can talk later. Bye, love you!" before grabbing my bag and running through the front door.

"Took you long enough!" says Keegan with an airy tone. Keegan and I have been friends ever since I moved here. We were put in most classes together, she's hilarious (not as much as me though), and ever since she first saw me as the new English kid, she made sure we did everything together.

Our 15 minute car journey flew by, and right before we knew it, we were parked up in front of Lake Valley Highschool.

We casually made our way to our lockers, laughing about how idiotic some people in this school were. Literally, someone made an Instagram account, with stupid pictures of our teacher's faces on inappropriate images, or making fun of them or whatever.

After our laughter died down from looking at the last post I said "Yeah but Keeks, I feel bad. I mean some of this stuff is hilarious but it's so mean, hopefully the teachers won't find out."

"Yeah your right. Poor Miss Wales, I will never forget seeing her face on a giraffe, I mean it's not her fault she was born with a big neck." She ends with a sigh.

As the bell rings we head over to our first period class, which for me, was History. As Mr Smith was droning on and on about World War 2, I got a notification on my phone. Might as well check it since I sit at the back and am not going to pay attention anyway.
