As I pulled in for work, I noticed that Mike was just getting out of his car. I ran over to where he was parked so that we could walk in together. I had never really felt comfortable going in there by myself. Mike saw me heading towards him and he waved.
As I approached him, I got the first decent look at his face. Jesus, he looked like he hasn't slept all week! He had huge bags under his eyes and was slightly dragging his feet. Had he been like this all week? Then again, I probably looked even worse. I still wasn't used to being on a vampire's schedule. That, and I had just been watching more cartoons at night. The life of an addict is not an easy one.
As we walked in, I asked what Freddy would do. "He's a sneaky bastard." Mike replied. "He just stops by whenever he wants and comes in as soon as you look away. He's mainly based around audio triggers rather than visual ones, unlike the others."
When we got to the office, the night had just started. Mike offered to take the camera duty, since he was used to looking at Freddy and Foxy simultaneously. I'd have to run back and forth all night, so I let Mike use the chair.
"Fuck!" I yelled. Mike jumped and asked what was happening. "Damnit, I forgot to bring a chair AGAIN!" I said. "Shit, (Y/N)! I thought that one of them was here or something!" Mike exclaimed.
As we both resumed our duties, Miked yelled, "GET THE RIGHT, I HAVE LEFT!" and leaped towards the left door. I lunged for the right door and smashed the door button. Foxy's knock and Freddy's laugh sounded simultaneously.
"Jesus, you're quick!" Mike said. We both started laughing about what had just happened when the lights went out and the doors came up.
"SHIT!" Mike yelled. "I forgot to check the fucking power!" Freddy began playing a somewhat familiar chime in the hallway. I ran over to Mike and started to pray that all he would do was play his song, but my gut told me he'd jump out at us any second. I threw my arms around him and held on for dear life while Mike... Was he humming along? Mike held onto me and started rubbing my back. After Freddy's song was done, the room went pitch black. I screamed and Mike held on tighter. Right as I was sure he had us, Mike's 6AM alarm went off. I laughed and the lights went back on. When I saw how snugly Mike and I were pressed together, I blushed and stood up. Mike was a little red in the face too, but he looked happy nonetheless. "Thanks," I muttered. Mike nodded and walked out to his car.
"SHIT!" I yelled. Mike turned around and walked over to my car. "I forgot to get gas today!" I began mumbling about how stupid I was when Mike cleared his throat. "I could drive you home, (Y/N)." he offered. "Maybe you can just take me to a station or something? All I need is gas." "Sure."
I hopped into his car. Once inside, I noticed just how beat up it was. The seats had rips and tears, the steering wheel's cover was worn, and every mirror had a crack in it somewhere. It had obviously been very well loved for many years.
"Sorry, I know it isn't the nicest car in the world. It might not be a convertible, but it beats walking." Mike said. "Hey, it's okay. Trust me, I've been on worse transports." I shuddered as flashbacks to my father's old car played through my mind. Jesus, that thing was disgusting.
As Mike turned the key, I noticed how helpful he'd been this week. I thanked him for all the various times he'd saved my life or given advice to help me survive.
"Hey, you aren't too bad yourself." Mike replied. "That's what partners do; help each other in the face if danger." That was the first time anyone had called me their partner. It was nice to hear, even if it was just for business. I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking about. Mike was such an enigma that I have no idea what could possibly be going on inside of that head of his. Mike finally got the engine started, and we headed off towards the station.
