Finding the One

Chapter Ten

When I woke up, I looked at the clock and it read 6:37pm. "Damn. I slept that long?" I thought to myself. I got up and dragged myself downstairs to go see if David was home yet. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, my heart dropped at what I saw.

I ran over to the couch almost running into it to David. He had a cut on his left eye brow, a bruise under his eye and a series of red marks on his arms.

"Oh my god, David! What happened?!" I asked brushing my fingers over the slash on his eye brow. There were so many thoughts going through my head, I just couldn't handle it all at once. Not after what happened.

"It's ok, Marissa. I'm fine." He said in a low voice that was faintly scratchy

"Fine?! This is definite not what fine looks like. Did Xavier do all of this? How long have you been home? And how did you get home? I asked with my voice shaking a little and letting a tear escape my left eye

"Calm down for a second, Marissa. Xavier didn't hurt me that bad. I didn't fight back because I didn't want it to get worse than it already is. Sergio drove me home after school today so I wouldn't have to deal with Xavier anymore than I already had too. But, you have got to stay here and not go to school for a while though for me. Can you just do me that one favor?"

"Why? And since when have you been friends with Sergio? " Not that I really cared how he got here, I was just happy he was.

"Oh. I met him at soccer tryouts. He's a really good goalie. But anyways, Xavier threatened to hurt you if he ever sees me kiss you or hug you or even touch you again. He said that you're his girl and no one will ever get to have you but him. I just want you to be safe so, if you could just please stay here with Samuel for a couple weeks." He said almost begging

"Can you stay too? You're in really bad condition and you need the sleep too. Please stay? For me? I need you now more than ever, David. I don't wanna lose you." I said staring right into those dark blue pools of water he had as eyes.

"I need you too, Marissa and I will stay. But if anything comes up and I can't stay, Samuel will always be here." He said trying to comfort me.

"Ok. I'll stay then. I just have to find a way to explain to my mom why I won't be coming home for the next couple of weeks.

"We'll think of something." He said smiling. He gave me a hug and continued watching Loony Toons on TV.

I went back upstairs to his room and got my phone off of the charger. I text my mom and told her that I won't be home for a couple of weeks because I'm staying over at a friend's house. She txt me back ok and that she was probably going to take Antonio to my Uncle Demitri's for a month so she could take a vacation she's been needing for months now. She said she was probably going to this retreat place that is like four hours away from where we live so, it works out perfectly. I love how easy going and laid back my mom is. She isn't ever really strict but, she still cares about me and Antonio very much. I was probably going to have to go to my house and grab a couple of outfits to last me while I am at David's house unless I want to wear the same thing. That's not even an option. David's parents are going to still be in Colombia for some type of business trip thing by the time I leave so I don't have to worry about them getting mad at David for letting me stay. I still really wanna meet them though. At the party, they seemed like such friendly people and very laid back.

​I went back down stairs to find David barely awake on the couch.

"Hey, Samuel!" I yelled to him. "I'm going to take David upstairs to his room and we're going to bed. Ok?"

"Ok, Marissa. Good night."

"Good night, Samuel."

​I softly shook David's leg and he woke up. He sat up and got up off of the couch. We walked up to his room and he lay down on his bed. He let out a soft low groan as he rested his arm down on a pillow. I lie down next to him and bury my head under his arm being careful not to touch the sore spots on it.

"Good night, Marissa." He whispered to me

"Good night, David."

"I love you." He said and kissed me on my forehead

"I love you too." I said closing my eyes and I softly kissed his arm and went to sleep
