Aye there matties! My name be Captain Mallory. Ye can call me Mal if it be easier for ye. And me dragon here is named Flare. He don't do much besides gimme some help whenever need be. My monologuing aside, let me tell ye about Thomas and Amy.

So it started out like any normal day. Me and Flare all alone on our ship, sailing the seven seas. When all a sudden like, I heard a scream comin from the back o' me ship. 'Course me and Flare rush towards it, weapons at the ready; Flare just kinda flew along since he can't carry the swords that be double his size. I heard another scream coming from me cabin. I bust down me cabin door and prepared me self for a fight. There wasn't any bandits or scoundrels or stowaways like I thought, but there was a little girl and boy sitting in the corner. The girl had tears streaming down her face and a nasty looking scrape down her arm. I beckoned Flare to follow me as I dropped me weapon an' approached the children. The little boy jumped up and started swinging a wooden sword at my legs. I moved him aside and kneeled down in front of the little girl. "Aye kid. How did ye manage to get here?" I asked as I attempted to wrap up er scrape. She didn't respond to me, just cried her little eyes out. I wiped the tears from her eyes and tried to coax an answer from her. Finally, the boy behind me spoke. "I dunno. We just woke up here and Amy fell off a barrel and caught her arm on a nail." Them damn barrels. Need to get rid of those ugly things. They don't even be holding anything. After the girl, Amy, stopped crying, I let them play with Flare in me cabin as I thought about what to do with em. I looked around the bottom parts of me ship, checking for cracks or leaks. It'd be nice to have someone to check the ship or steer it. Most of the time, I just let it move straight forward or stay isolated in the sea. It also may be nice to have someone else to keep me company besides Flare. He's losing his young spark anyways. After I had decided what to do, I walked back to me cabin. The two kids were chasing Flare around the cabin with wooden swords. I chuckled to me self and opened the door. They both looked up and smiled right at me. The young boy walked up to me and held out his hand. "I know its a bit late, but my names Thomas." I shook his hand. "Well it be a pleasure to meet ye Thomas." He chuckled and Amy giggled. I looked at Flare, but he didn't seem to understand either. "Now what ye all be laughing about?" I asked. "You just talk funny," Thomas remarked. The little girl grabbed herself a sword and trotted around the cabin. "Aye there. It be a pleasure to meet ye las," she said, trying her best to copy me accent. Everyone, including me self, laughed. We joked and played all day until it was time for us all to sleep. "Alright, ye two. It's time for bed." They both whined at me. It didn't take long, but they followed me to the spare cabins downstairs. I showed the little monsters there beds and left them be. I just got settled into me bed, when I heard a knock upon me door. I got up and opened it to see the two kids, frightened. "What ye two be doing here?" They both walked into my room and stood behind me. "T-there was a monster downstairs. I-it made this weird growling noise and had glowing red eyes." I smiled to myself. "That only be Flare ye lads. He snores a lot." They seemed relieved. I told them to go back to sleep, but they insisted on staying with me for the night. Since it was their first night here, I allowed it. They both took up half of me bed, so I just slept on the floor.

A few years later

"Thomas! Man the sails!" I shouted from the crows nest. "Aye aye captain!" He shouted back, lowering the sails and tying them down. "Amy! Just keep heading forward! It's clear waters for a while." She obeyed my commands as Flare flew up to me. "Did ye see any people on the island Flare?" He shook his head. I nodded to him and smiled. Flare flew back down to the front of the ship. "Aye ye two! The land ahead be clear of people! We can have it all to ourselves!" Thomas and Amy both cheered. They be about 12 by now, four years older from when I found em. Since then, they've learned to man the ship, how to fight, and they've each gained a bit of an accent from me. We reached the land, and jumped down from the ship. It had been about a year since we found some land. It was great to feel the sand underneath me feet. The two kids jumped off and began stocking up on supplies. I smiled as they ran off and started racing each other. Which reminded me. Today I turn 18. Can't believe I kept track of that. Later that night, we were all sitting around the fire and talking to each other when Thomas left to go get something. Turns out, they remembered it was me birthday and made me a make shift cake from what they could find. They all made me blow out the candles they made on top, it was really just sticks they set on fire, then asked me what I wished for. "Well, I wished that we don't ever have to leave each others side for as long as we know each other." They all hugged me and smiled. Me favorite moment of that night was what they said next. "We love ye too, mom." Mom. They thought of me as a mother. Someone to look up to. That was always what I wanted. And now I have it.
