A long time ago, three children were born all on the same day. Their names were Cadence, Pauly, and Miranda. These three were brought into this world together brave, strong, and curious, but left it weak, scared, and hopeless.
Cadence, born at sunrise, was elegant, beautiful, and poise. She was most related to the spirit of the cat. Cadence lived with a mediocre in a mediocre house, but her life was far from mediocre. Cadence was constantly helping others whether it be helping the elderly, donating to the homeless, or just showing a smile to someone who looked upset. She was members of many different clubs, groups, and teams that did all sorts of things. Her friends had difficultly catching up with her busy schedule. As to be thought, Cadence's friends came and went with very little reasoning past Cadence never being available. Occasionally, she found her schedule overwhelming and had to cut out certain parts of her life including hanging out with friends, relaxing, sometimes even sleeping or eating. As the years went by, her free time shortened into nothingness. At school, Cadence was of course working for the best grades, but also making sure she was caught up on every activity, every club, every event. She could never miss anything. Cadence began to start stressing over everything. She felt the weight of the world forcing her down. She kept going though, only adding more to the pile. Cadence graduated high school best in her class. She was finally done with high school ,but colleges were practically begging her to go to their school. She eventually found a college she liked and started classes almost immediately. College was a lot harder than Cadence expected it to be. She realized her predicament after she had already signed herself up for almost every activity or group on the entire campus. Cadence never slept anymore. She forced herself to stop eating and resting. She cursed herself every time she fell asleep studying or helping out somewhere. Cadence felt the pressure begin to crush her. Saw the shadows appearing in the corners of her eyes. Couldn't stop the weight that was going to hit her. She didn't know what to do. How to prepare herself, but she made her own escape route. She slit her throat. Just like that, gone. It took less than an hour for people to find out, for she didn't show to the three activities she had lined up that day. Of course everyone missed her dearly, but she didn't know.
Pauly, born at sunset, was clumsy, slow, but had a heart of courage. His soul took the similar form of a panda. Pauly was very strange in the fact that he had one bright shiny blue eye and one dark dull brown eye. At first, people found it interesting and Pauly adored his differing eyes. All too quickly, that feeling disappeared. Over the years, people stopped caring about his difference and that was fine with him, but then they started taunting him. They called Pauly a freak. Said he looked stupid. Told him he should feel bad for his stupid self. Pauly tried to ignore it at first, but it became worse. People tripped him in the halls, occasionally beat him up, and called him new hurtful names every day. Pauly managed to make it through high school and graduated with honors and taunts from others. Eventually, Pauly found a community college that was far away from the bullies that tormented him. At least those ones. No one was ever nice to Pauly anymore. Everyone either bullied him, hated him, or just flat out ignored him. Pauly joined some anti-bullying groups, but that only further increased the teasing. He eventually started agreeing with the things they said. That he was a freak, an idiot, a moron. He looked at himself in the mirror, but saw a stupid, weird, freak of a man instead of himself. There was a Halloween party for one of Pauly's anti-bullying groups, but you had to show in costume. Pauly felt like he needed to give himself one more chance to prove that people cared about him. Pauly painted the half of his face with the blue eye black and the side with the brown eye white. He wore a black tux on one side, but cut it to leave the white undershirt showing on the other. His dress pants and shoes matched the same style. When he arrived at the party, he was disappointed beyond belief. Turns out, some of the bullies threw the party to lure him in and make fun of him. Everyone laughed at his "ridiculous costume". Pauly ran back home, tears in his eyes, and hung himself with the noose he had prepared in his bedroom. His real friends that he never noticed missed him so much, but Pauly barely knew they existed.
The last child, Miranda, born at noon , was shy, sneaky, and deceptive. Her soul had the form of a mouse. Miranda was abandoned as a child and lived on the streets. How she managed to live so long, the angels must have been looking after her. Miranda lived her life among the shadows, doing what she needed to survive. Whether it be stealing, bribing, or breaking in, she did it all to keep her heart beating. It wasn't until her teenage years that it occurred. Miranda had weird thoughts cloud her mind and on random occasions have unexplained headaches. Most of the time it didn't bother her, but a few years time made it worse to a point were she headaches forced her to not do anything physical until they passed. It almost got her caught a few times. A couple years later and Miranda became a skilled survivor in the game of life she lived. The only hold back was her headaches, thoughts, and shadows that soon randomly appeared into her vision. These weren't normal shadows that Miranda saw, but odd human or animal shaped ones that were pitch black. Of course they were all in her head, but why? They started in the corners of her eyes, but soon covered her entire vision at times. Each shadow came with it's own unique and skull splitting headache. The thoughts Miranda had turned into whispers that came from different voices that echoed through her head. The whispers soon grew louder and louder. The headaches grew stronger. The shadows loomed taller. The whispers became screams, the shadows became a wall of darkness, the headaches literally felt like her skull was splitting. No more. No more. No more! Miranda grabbed the nearest weapon and bang. Just like that, she shot herself in the head. Nothing was left. At least there were no more headaches.
Three troubled kids lived three troubled lives. Three troubled adults ended their lives. The struggle was all over. There was no more pain. But their time hasn't come yet. Cadence was destined to be a planner of all things. Weddings, parties, reunions, you name it. Cadence was you girl. But she ended her own life out of trying to schedule her own life. Pauly would have been a motivational speaker, and a great one at that. He was destined to tour the world, telling others how to escape bullying and depression. Yet he ended his life due to bullies and depression. Once Miranda found a building to work out of, she would become a psychologist. She would have helped others force the shadows from their minds before they became too big. Miranda though, took her life from the pain the shadows caused her. You can look at this two ways. You can say the children's souls were freed and lived happily forever, or you can say that the children always had a way out. They just needed to reach out for it.
