i wish i were a butterfly
with everywhere to go
no one to answer to
just a large world to roam

i stare at you from the window
because you look so free
you're soft, swift, and agile-
everything i wish to be

i watch you as you land,
resting peacefully on a leaf
admiring your features
how your wings are designed oh so
beautifully

your wings are so gentle
yet so full of power
i admire your presence
hour upon hour

when people try to touch you,
you fly and flea
so i guess the reason i admire you,
is because you're a reflction of me

when people look at you,
they see beauty and color
but you know to keep your distance
you're an insect of intelligence
like no other

because you know that even though
people look at you in fascination,
you understand that every human is not gentle,
a subtle form of discrimination

you let people love you from afar,
for you know the damage they can do
yet though you're aware of this fear,
you always continue to discover the world,
searching for something new.
