Saturday morning came too early. For some reason, I had moved my bed next to my window last month, with in the first few days I knew it was a mistake, I was just too lazy to move my room around again. Besides, apart from being woken up as soon as the sun rose, I quite liked the lay out of my room. It was cosy.

I rolled over and checked the time 7:30am, I wasn’t meeting Mattie until 12, and it only took me and hour or so to get ready, throwing the duvet back over my head I decided to at least act like I’m asleep.

Exactly 15 minutes later, plan failed. “Naeveh, are you up yet?” So dad wasn’t hung over, the only reason I didn’t mind dad leaving me alone on a Friday night, was the possibility he’d have a hang over and let me sleep in. So far it’d happened once, but hey I was still hoping. I ignored him and hoped he’d go away. “I made pancakes, and we have strawberries and cream” Oh the joys of dad not being hung over.

“I’m coming!!” Never had I moved so fast, strawberries were my weakness, and sadly everybody knew it. Put them with cream or pancakes and I’m a sucker, I’ll do anything for… Wait. I skidded on the landing and nearly went flying down the stairs, see they really were to die for. “What do you want” Suspicion laced my voice,  I knew no matter what, I wanted those strawberries, but it’d be nice to know the price.

I heard my dads low chuckle “you don’t have to do anything, I’m just in a good mood this morning” I was still suspicious but dad was pretty honest. If he wanted something doing, he’d just ask me, sure the strawberries were a treat, but I’d do it anyway. The only person who really used my obsession was Mattie. That boy was something else, I chuckled to myself as I remembered all the times Mattie had used strawberries to bribe me. Finally I made it to the table and began to chow down. I’d say eat, but that seems to lady like for someone who looks like a cannibal when strawberries are around. Its not a pretty sight.

When I was around 9, Mattie had dared me to climb the tree as high as I could. And just to show him I wasn’t scared, I did it. I climbed and climbed, until the tree began swaying. That’s when it got difficult. I looked down, the fatal mistake. After that I was stuck, for three hours Mattie had tried to coax me down, I made him promise he wouldn’t get my dad, because then we’d both me in trouble. Out of no where Mattie’s face suddenly lit up, “I’ll be right back” and before I could protest he was gone. He left me there for hours, shivering and crying to myself, well he swears  it was only 20minutes, but it felt like hours. Eventually Mattie came back, and guess what he was holding, that’s right strawberries. My face lit up as soon as I saw them, I wanted them, they were mine. And then he began eating them, my heart was literally broken. That’s right guys my first heartbreak was not some silly crush, it was my best friend eating strawberries without me. Yes I know I’m pretty special. Eventually I got so mad that he was doing this to me, I literally stomped down the tree until the very last branch, and lunged at him, those pretty red babies were mine! Once we stopped laughing, I saw the empty box of strawberries, and my face dropped, all of a sudden Mattie pulled another box from no where. In that moment right there, I knew we’d be friends forever and until this day, I was right.

“So what are your plans today?” Dad interrupted my thought process. Even though my dad was strict we still have a really good relationship, we actually talk about everything and anything. Well excluding girl problems, that would be way too awkward.

“M’off to Matties” I mumbled throw a mouthful of strawberries.

“You just staying at Mattie’s?” Yep, my dad was one of those parents who wanted  to know every detail of my day.

I swallowed what was in my mouth this time, “erm, I’m not too sure” before he cut in I quickly added “don’t worry we’ll be back at his by 9, and you can call me when you want me home, and he’ll walk me home, right to the doorstep, you can even come say hi” See my dad was a tad bit over protective, he didn’t want me out too late, because he wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to those wild teenage parties he’d heard about.  He didn’t mind how late I stayed at stayed at Mattie’s it was just a few doors down from ours, and Mattie would always walk me home, regardless. Heck he was even allowed to stay over if dad was home. Lisa and Mark, weren’t too strict with Mattie, so on most weekends, we’d spend the day at Mattie’s and most the night at mine.
