"Tristan! You can't do that. You already know I work better on my own" I complained.

Tristan barley payed attention. All he did was continue his work and nodded to every word I was saying. "Tristan!"

"Listen, Hyde. I have more work than anyone in the building and your doing nothing but slowing me down. Donovan is on the mission with you, and you take the job or I bump down your level".

Those words echoed in my head. I sure as hell didn't want to get bumped down. I stormed out his office and stomped to my office.

I looked through the glass and saw Donovan on my computer. I barged in and closed the door. "Why are you touching my computer?" I sneered. "We are sharing".

"Yeah an office. But my belongings are also related to my business and your breaking our little rule"

He spun around and got out my seat. "Your a real brat you know that right?". I looked up at him and held myself back from saying something that could get me fired. "Being stern and assertive doesn't make me a brat, thank you very much".

He hummed to himself sarcastically. "Oh please. I don't have to explain anything to you" I sat down.

"So since we're working on the bank thing tog-"

"Oh about that. You could just do the computer work and ill do the missions. I don't need a sidekick but thanks".

He smiled calmly to me. I could tell it was fake. "I'm not trying to offend anyone here and the last person I want to offend is you. Just please, let me do this with you so we can get the job done right. Please? I'm trying to get a pay check as much as you are" he said.

I sighed. I guess I could give him a chance?

___________

"So we arrest him right away?" He asked. I sucked my teeth, "No. Don't be silly. We can't just arrest the guy unless we know for sure he's the one in charge" I said.

"Have the weed?"

He peeked the weed from his pockets. "Kathy it's me". I heard Macy from my Bluetooth. "Hey"

"How's things going with Donovan? Becoming friends?"

"More or less"

She sighed. "Oh well. Anyway, he collects the goods at the alley on Ave. U. Turn the left and the first door you see is the one leading to the bank. They have a secret code. Three knocks, then two finger taps" she explained.

I nodded. "Thanks girl". I turned off my blue tooth and covered it with my hair. "Macy said first door on our left. Three knocks two finger taps" I repeated. "Wear this".

I handed him a very tiny microphone and he put it on the inside of his shirt. "I'll be listening".

He walked to the door and did the code. The door swung open moments later. I put my ear phones in to listen. "How may I help you?".

"You ordered weed"

"Yes".

I'm guessing Donovan handed him the bag because I heard a large stack of money plop down in his hands. Before I could hear anymore, I was yanked up by my arm.

I screamed as I was put in a neck lock. I fidgeted for a while. I elbowed the antonym outs assaulter in the stomach, but it didn't seem to bother him. I grew weaker as my breathing shortened. Donovan shoved the money in his pocket and ran to the rescue.

He was strong enough to loosen the persons grip to the extent where I could slip out. I did so and then dropped to the side where my bag was. I coughed and tried to gather my breath. My heart pounded as I stared at Donovan, putting the person arm behind his back, lifting it.

The person struggled and then he pulled the mask off. Donovan paused and so did I when I saw it was a woman. Damn she was strong!

She mouthed something to him and then ran off. The guy tried to run off to, but Donovan grabbed him before he could escape. "Nuh-uh. Your coming with us".

_____________

I stared in the mirror of my office as I cringed to the blue and purple bruises spotted on my neck. Nothing makeup can't cover up. I dappled the powder on my neck as Donovan came in, looking like he's seen a ghost.

"What's wrong?"

He snapped back into reality and his glare suddenly turned into a warm smile. "Nothing. And are you covering your bruises with makeup?" He asked. I looked at him and stopped my pettish ways.

"Let me see"

He came closer and examined my neck. He looked at me with kind eyes and then brushed his fingers against the bruise. I winced as he moved is fingers. "Sorry". I shook my head as he pulled the seat to face me.

I put my powder away and faced him, rubbing my neck slightly. "Thank you"

"For?"

"Saving me. That girl was so damn strong" I admitted. "What partners are for right? Ha. Glad I didn't do the computer work?" He boasted. I smiled and nodded. Thank God he was there or else I could have been gone.

"If there's anything I could do to repair you, tell me and I'll be right on it"

"Can I take you out to dinner tonight?" I asked. "Consider it more of a Meet and Greet. To get to know you better. How bout it?" He asked.

"Sure"

Oh don't think I've gotten all soft now. Oh no. I have more tricks up my sleeve.
