chapter 2: Thin hope

Just darkness as far as the eye could see, for what seemed like hours I blindly walked in the dark stumbling and vulnerable until I saw a light in the far distance. I ran to it, franticly scrambling to get to what I thought would be the end.

I was wrong.

That was just the beginning to a journey that no person should ever have to take. I walked into the light.*

"She's awake" I heard Liam say who's voice seemed to be almost a million miles away. I opened my eyes and was aware that I was no longer on the floor but it a white room with a very uncomfortable pillow and that there were five wide eyed boys staring at me.

It was only then I pieced everything together. The other four boys left the room like they knew that Liam and I needed to talk.

The only words that escaped his lips were "why?" Before the tears started to fall, his browns eyes being overcome by a storm that was increasing by the minute.

"Please tell me now, when was the last time you ate properly?" he said in a tone that I had never heard him use before. He sounded too broken like it hurt him to see me lying there.

I tried to think of a suitable answer that didn't seem to terrifying but I honestly couldn't remember. This frightened but made me happy in a twisted sort of way, like it was an achievement to be proud of.

If I could do it for that long maybe I could carry on for months, years even. . . . .

I looked up and saw Liam look at me expectantly for an answer.

"The day you left" I told him, which to me seemed like a pretty good guess.

A flash of anger came across his face and then he did the unexpected. He walked over to me and looked me straight in the eye for what seemed like forever. He was searching for something, shame maybe, sadness, loneliness anything that meant I was still "normal".

I think he found what he was looking for because what he said next was; "I will always love you and thats why your going to get help"

Little did he know I was beyond help.
