I slammed my locker shut and adjusted my bag, pulling it higher up on my back. People were giving me looks, whispering about my injuries and how I got jumped.

"But she's the toughest girl here."

"Bob is gonna get it."

"He said stuff about her momma."

The words wouldn't stop coming, entering my head and staying like an infection, I would have yelled at them if I didn't have such a bad headache.

I made my way to the lunch room, knowing that we weren't even going to eat in there, we never do. Ponyboy was waiting for me by the doors with Two Bit and Steve by his side.

"Ready?" Ponyboy asked. I nodded, nothing being able to come out of my mouth.

Me and Ponyboy walked in the back while Steve and Two Bit walked farther ahead.

"How ya feelin'?" Ponyboy asked me quietly.

"Better," I partly lied, "my head still hurts."

"Wish I could make you better," he murmured.

I smiled faintly, reaching my hand out to intertwine our fingers. He tensed up at first, glancing down at out hands, but relaxed after a couple seconds.

He smiled, failing to hide it from me. He looked so cute, so happy.

"I'm goin' to the movies with Soda and Darry!" I called from upstairs. The bar was empty, all except for me, Dally and one worker.

"Is Pony comin'?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes, knowing what he was going to say. "Yeah,"

"Then I'm comin'," he said back.

I groaned and threw my black muscle tank on along with my jacket while walking downstairs. "Why you always gotta come, Dal? Just 'cause Pony'll be there."

"I've seen you, Amanda," he turned towards me, "you've been wanting to go out with him more, it's not the same like when you were ten."

"What are you sayin'?"

"I see it in your eyes, Manda," his facial expression turned soft, "you're fallin' for Ponyboy."

I scoffed. "Am not."

"I've been in this situation before," he frowned slightly, "I know how it works."

I sighed and rubbed my face with my hands. I didn't wanna be soft and comfort him, but I didn't wanna yell either. "Soda and Darry will be there."

He walked forward and engulfed me into a hug. "I guess it's okay, I just don't wanna lose the Amanda I met five years ago."

"I'm growin' up, Dally," I put my chin on his chest and looked up at him.

He kissed my forehead and let me go. "I know, just wish you wouldn't."

"Can't fuck life," I cussed and ran for the door, knowing he would yell at me for using that language.

"Amanda Winston!" He used his own last name for me, has ever since I was itty bitty.

"Sorry Dal!" I opened the door and rushed out, "love you!"

I heard him shout "love you" just as the door slammed, and I made way way towards the Curtis house.

Maybe Dally was right, maybe I was falling for Ponyboy. But we've known each other since we were little, would that change things? He would never feel the same, right? What if he thought of me as a sister, that'd be awkward. I was only thinking on the bad side.
