Chapter 9
I woke up to an obnoxious knocking at my door. I groaned as I rolled over and covered my head with my pillow in attempt to smother out the noise. The person at the door did not relent so I got out of bed running my hand through my hair and went to the door. When I opened the door I saw Alberta standing there. My jaw clenched when I remembered her role in telling Dimitri about my pregnancy. I bit my tongue to stop myself from starting a conversation that would probably end in me spilling the beans that Dimitri was the father.
“What can I do for you at this un-godly hour Alberta?” I asked her, my tone laced with slight annoyance. Apparently it was too much because she narrowed her eyes at me before speaking.
“Mrs. Kivora and I need to see you in her office. Be there at eight.” She said before turning around and walking back down the hallway. I groaned and closed the door and went back and sat on my bed and put my head in my hands. It was way too early for this. I looked up at my alarm clock to see that it was five to eight.
“Thanks for the heads up Alberta.” I thought sarcastically as I got up to get ready. I quickly threw on a pair of jeans and an off-the-shoulder red sweater and added just a bit of mascara before throwing my hair in a pony-tail and heading out the door. In true Rose Hathaway style, I arrived ten minutes late. I entered the room to see someone standing in front of Kivora’s desk with their back towards me. I let the door slam close to let them know of my arrival. A string of curse words left my mouth when I saw that the woman standing in front of me was none other than my mother.
"Language, Rosemarie." She scolded. Apparently I hadn’t spoken quietly enough.
"Crap." I slowly repeated, just to annoy her. She rolled her eyes at my immaturity.
“So why are you here, Mother?” I asked in a bored tone. She sighed and took a few steps in my direction.
“I was here with my charge and Alberta called me here because she said that there was something you wanted to tell me.”
Another freaking reason to hate Alberta. She was going to throw me under the bus to my mother!! I glared at Alberta sending sharpened daggers in her direction. My mother cleared her throat bringing my attention back to her.
“So what did you have to tell me that was so important.”
I really did not want to do this. Once again, I glared at Alberta as I started speaking.
"Well it seems that you already know since you've already informed the entire staff. But if you want me to admit it, fine, I'll say it loud and clear. I'm pregnant." I heard my mother gasp and I looked to see her staring at me wide eyed.
“What!?” She exclaimed, storming towards me.
“Are you so irresponsible that you could let this happen! Do you know how much you have just ruined your future? You can take the idea of becoming Lissa’s guardian and throw it away because there is no way that will happen now.”
I was seething when she said this, but obviously she was not done asking questions.
"Who's the father?" my mother demanded. I knew how to answer this question after my talk with Dimitri last night, but damn, I was going to sound like such a slut. I took a deep breath and answered.
"I don't know." I answered softly. Their mouths dropped.
"What do you mean I don't know?" Alberta asked
"I don't know." I said sternly. I could see that my mom wanted to say something, but thankfully, she bit her tongue.
"Are you going to keep it?" My mother asked. I smiled and placed a hand protectively on my stomach.
"Well I’m sure as hell not going to drop it off at the nearest academy and have them raise it.” I said glaring at my Mother. Kivora and Alberta’s eyes widened in surprise when I said this. My mother just rolled her eyes probably expecting it.
"Are you sure Rose?" my mom said.
"Yes Mother, I am." Surprisingly, she let it go after that.
"Ok um well we let your combat teachers know so you will be learning non-combat. Also you won't be able to take your trials" I had figured this but it still made me sad to hear it.
"You'll graduate with the rest of the class though." They kept on talking about how I would meet my requirements for another half an hour before they sent me to first period.
