Chapter 8

DPOV

As I was walking towards Rose's room to check on her after my shift patrolling the wards I thought it was weird that she was so sick. Damphirs don't usually get ill due to our advanced immune system. I hoped that it wasn’t anything serious but it must be really bad to take my Roza down since she is usually so tough. I groaned when I realized I had left my duster in the break room.  I quickly turned to walk back to the room to grab it before heading to Rose’s dorm room. When I walked in I heard a group of guardians gossiping. I rolled my eyes. Even adults do it. You would have thought would know better and be a little more mature. As I walked to the chair that I had draped my duster on I overheard some of what they were saying.

"Well we all knew it would happen someday, I mean you've all heard the stories about her, she's a slut." I shuddered at those words; they were so degrading no one deserved to be called that. "No surprise she's pregnant. Honestly I was surprised it didn’t happen sooner."  I had stopped  in my tracks and was staring at them in disgust. They  noticed I was standing there giving them a death glare and turned to talk when they realized it was me.

"Oh, hey Dimitri, you're mentoring Hathaway, right?" I turned my head to the side and stepped towards them.

"Yes, I am, why?" I asked confused why that mattered.

"You haven't heard? Apparently you won't be training her for much longer." He said with a sneer. I froze, did they find out about our relationship. Crap, I was so getting fired. I swallowed to try and keep my cool before answering.

"Heard what?" I asked putting my guardian mask on.

"She's pregnant. Wouldn't be surprised we all know how she gets around, I wonder if she even knows who the father is. My bet is on that Ivashkov kid that’s been following her like a lost puppy. But who knows, with her it could be anyone." My eyes hardened and I gave him deadly look.

"Who has started those ridiculous lies? And why do you, guardians at this school, continue to spread them? "I said my voice almost in a growl.

"But they're not lies, you can go see the results yourself, Dr. Olendski gave them to Alberta. It got around, apparently just like she does."  I clenched my fist at the attempt to stop myself from pounding his face in and turned away and quickly walked out of the room to find Alberta. I searched at the post where she was usually at around this time and found out she had to take care of some business in her office.  I found her in one of the meeting rooms and stormed up to her. She looked up from the papers she was looking at and her eyes widened. It was probably because of the anger radiating of off me. I walked up to her and asked her the question that I was dying to know the answer of.

"What is with everyone saying Rose is pregnant?" I asked trying to keep my voice steady. Her eyes widened.

"Where did you hear that from?" She asked firmly.

"Some guardians were gossiping in the lounge." I said through my teeth. "Damn eavesdroppers." She said. My heart nearly stopped.
