Chapter 7

When we finally got to the nurse's office after my ears were nearly bleeding due to Lissa's constant chatter, Dr. Olendski was finishing bandaging up a novices hand. Obviously he had tucked in his thumb while throwing a punch and broken it, what an amateur. After he left Dr. Olendski put away the supplies that she had used to bandage up his injured hand, she came up to us with the friendly smile she always greeted her student. I really should have, like, a frequent customer card or something; I’m here almost every week.

"Princess, Miss. Hathaway, what can I help you with today?" she asked and motioned for us to sit down. I looked at Lissa asking her to explain this situation. I didn't even know how to begin.

"Well, I was checking up on Rose because she stayed in sick today and I found something strange with her aura. Her aura is showing signs that would only be there if she was pregnant." Lissa explained as if it was nothing.  Dr. Olendski's eyes widened in surprise but she quickly hid it.

"Which I think is impossible because I've only ever sleep with Di- , a damphir.” I said quickly after Lissa. I cursed at myself for almost letting Dimitri's name slip. I have got to be more careful or I was going to find myself in a heap of trouble. "Lissa thinks it's because I'm shadow kissed and my genes are different or something so we were wondering if you could do a blood test to rule this out." I said, I knew and hoped it was impossible but I also knew Lissa would not let it go until she was proven wrong.

"Alright then, let's do the test." Dr. Olendski said. She told me she could do either a urine test or a blood test. She said the blood test was more accurate so I went with that one. She got the supplies out and quickly cleaned the inside of my arm before drawing some blood. Thankfully she only had to take one tube before she went in the back to conduct the test. Since there weren’t any tests to be done she said it wouldn’t take long. About twenty minutes later she came out with a confused look on her face holding a paper that I guess held the results. She walked closer to us and sighed before sitting down next to us. "Rose, are you sure you have not been with a moroi in the last few weeks?" My heart started beating erratically. I do not like where this is going. I let out a shaky breath before responding.

"No, I already told you I have only been with a damphir." I was really starting to freak out now. My breathing was becoming more and more shallow.

"Rose, you can tell me the truth I won't judge you.” I scoffed at her. I can’t believe she thought I was lying to her. I would not lie about something like this. Then I realized what she was saying.

"Are you saying—am I?" I tried saying "pregnant" but it wouldn't come out of my mouth. What the hell was I going to do?

"Yes Rose, your about four weeks pregnant. I'm going to have to inform Alberta about this-"I didn't hear her finish because the nausea from this morning came back strong. I quickly stood up and covered my mouth with my hand.  That combined with shock was too much so I ran back down the hall into to my room where I puked my guts into a trashcan. Lissa ran after me and kneeled next to me and rubbed my back as I finished emptying my stomach. After I finished, I leaned into Lissa and burst into tears. She wrapped her arms around me and let me continue to sob. "What am I going to do Liss? I can't raise a baby and be your guardian!" She shushed me and rubbed my back soothingly.

"Rose, this baby is going to have two amazing parents and a bunch of other people who will love him or her. You'll be able to do it. You won't be alone." That made me think of how I was going to tell Dimitri. Great, and now I had to tell my boyfriend that I was pregnant when it was supposing impossible for us to conceive.

"What if Dimitri doesn't believe me? What if he leaves me? What am I going to do then?" I said breaking down in tears even more.

"If he loves you as much as you say, he'll believe you. I'll help you explain it to him tomorrow if you want?" I nodded and thanked her for her support. She told me that was what sisters were for and told me I should lay in bed to rest for a little bit. She lay down next to me and we talked for a while more before I got into bed to rest for a little bit.  She left after we talked for almost an hour because she told me I needed to actually get some sleep.

I lay on my bed for a few more minutes thinking of how I’m going to tell Dimitri and burst into tears when I thought he wouldn't believe me. I cried and prayed that Adrian wouldn't grace me with his presence with a spirit induced dream when my thoughts finally Iet me fall asleep.
