True to her word, I wake up and wander downstairs to find mum cooking pancakes. She's humming along to a song on the radio and occasionally singing the words. The kitchen smells like heaven and I smile as I sit at the table.
"Told you there'd be pancakes." She pushes a plate in front of me and ruffles my hair before returning to the stove.
"You did indeed." I reply, pouring lemon juice and sugar onto my pancake.
"So, how did you sleep?" She asks, shielding her eyes from the sunlight that's streaming through the window as she reaches for the pancake batter.
"I slept great. I'd say the whole mindset of being home made me sleep better."
"How come? Is it not homely there? Do you not feel welcome?"
"It's not that. I'm sure that I'll feel different soon. But, it's the whole new setting and new people thing. I'm sharing a house with 3 strangers that are older, and wiser than me. I'm not a local so I don't understand... Things." I'm careful to choose my words correctly. Mum hums, flipping her pancake and tipping it onto a plate.
"Well, you're welcome back here any time you want." She sits next to me and pours herself a glass of apple juice.
"And that reminds me. Aunt Maria text me this morning. She has invited us to dinner later. Gives us a chance for you to see your cousins again and me to return the DVD as promised." Mum continues, yawning and putting the first piece of her pancake in her mouth.
"Sounds great!" I smile, finishing my breakfast and stretching.
"You go get changed if you're finished. I can get the washing up. You're here on a holiday so I'm doing the work. So shoo."
"But mum-" I protest but all she does is raise an eyebrow.
"Dominic, go get dressed." She feigns anger and I throw my hands up in mock defeat.
"Fine, fine. But if you need me, shout." I stand up and head upstairs.
"DOM!"
8 hours later I'm greeted by an armful of children. I laugh and gather them up in a hug.
"Hello you two. I've been gone only a few days, not a few years!"
"But we still missed you." Taylor, the oldest, pouts. I kiss her blonde hair and squeeze her slightly.
"And I missed you all too; no matter how annoying you are at times." I wink and turn to her brother, Sam, who's managing to suck his thumb and hug me both at the same time.
"And what about you, Sammy? Are you being a good boy for your mummy?" I ask and Maria scoffs, arms folded but a small smile toying with the corners of her mouth.
"Of course he hasn't! You know him well enough, Dom. Now, both of you come in here and sit yourselves down. Tea will be ready in about an hour; just waiting for Tim to get back from work." She ushers me and mum into the sitting room which is scattered with more Lego bricks than I thought possible.
I sink down onto the sofa and watch as mum produces the DVD from her bag.
"I told you I'd bring it back, didn't I?" She coos, tweaking Taylor's nose before handing her the case. Taylor's face lights up like a Christmas tree and both she and Sam go running into the kitchen to find their mum, singing a chorus of excitement over their returned film. Mum sits down next to me just as I turn on my phone.
One missed call.
"Oooh! Who's that?" She nudges me and I furrow my brow, not recognising the number. I copy it to my text messages and type out a quick message.
Um... Hello? Who is this?"
"I honestly don't know." I frown, turning the screen off and crossing my legs just as the kids come running back into the sitting room. My phone lights up again.
You know who it is. Is the migraine gone?"
I grin wildly and my fingers fly over the keyboard as I type out my reply.
"Someone you like?" Mum smirks and I blush crimson.
"Let's see a pic! Are they hot?"
"I don't have one yet." I giggle, really wishing I did. I'd have to try and sneak one next time I was at the lab.
Of course it is. You missing me? Also, how'd you get my number?
"Ah Dom, that's no use! Hopeless." Mum tuts and Maria sits opposite us, leaning in.
"Who's hopeless?" She asks. I open my mouth to dismiss the topic but mum jumps straight in.
"Dom. He can't even get a picture of the person he likes."
"Do you have a name? We could Facebook them?" Maria and mum both look at me expectantly but I blush deeper, wishing the sofa would swallow me.
"Muuum... Maria... You're embarrassing me! And I know they don't have Facebook." My phone lights up again.
"We're only teasing you, love. Now, do you two want a drink?" Maria asks but me and mum both shake our heads.
"You can have a milkshake. Mummy bought some special powder today and it's really tasty." Taylor grins up at me but I politely decline.
I know everything, remember? And I'm missing you like one would miss the plague. Not at all ;)
I shake my head and roll my eyes.
Oh come off it. Of course you are or why would you text me?
Sam and Taylor both sit on the floor, building multicoloured houses as mum and her sister chat away about latest gossip. I absently stare out the window, watching the sun set over the hills. Aunt Maria lives in a small village just outside of the city so it's all lush green fields around her house instead of industrial estates. For as long as I can remember, Aunt Maria and Uncle Tim have been like a second set of parents to me; playing the role that my father should have. And although it does hurt not knowing who my other parent is, I don't think I'd swap the family I have for anything. They've always been there for me and I love them to bits.
Matt: I was joking. How's life up north?
Me: Not bad. Not a lot has changed in the few days I've been gone. I was expecting an economic collapse and all the religious folk to be praying for my return but hey, I was pleasantly surprised to find that life goes on. How are things back in the lab?
Matt: Boring. The bacteria isn't fully ready yet; that will be our task when you get back. So I'm currently creating fireballs with a bunsen and adding chemicals to see what colours I can get.
Me: Oh, so you do the fun stuff when I'm gone?
Matt: Not really. Did you miss the crucial point? I'm bored. I'm not having fun- I'm passing time.
Me: Normal people would head outside and do something other than science experiments to pass the time. But no, you have the big, bad, scary Trapdoor Spider reputation to upkeep so you can't. Try reading a book or surfing the web?
Matt: No way. People will see what I search. Science is safer.
The front door opens and both Taylor and Sam run to greet their dad like they did me. Maria also leaves the room, leaving me and mum alone.
"Still texting I see." She raises an eyebrow slightly.
"Yes."
"Do you like him?"
"Yes."
"Have you kissed him?"
"Wait how do you know it's a he?" I ask, stopping her questioning.
"Oh come off it, Dom. I've had my suspicions since you started wearing those bloody yellow skinny jeans and never bought a girl home. So answer my question. Have you kissed him?" Mum rolls her eyes before focussing on me again.
"Yes. But you mean, you're OK with it?"
"Of course I am! God only knows what I got up to at parties with other girls when I was drunk!" She scoffs and I wince.
"OK, there are kids present. You can stop there." I hold up a hand and mum cackles as Tim, Maria and their kids troop into the living room. Tim beams when he sees me and holds out a hand for me to shake.
"Dom! It's nice to see you again! How's the south?" Tim shakes my hand and I laugh.
"It's great! But why is everyone acting like I've been gone for a long time?"
"Because we miss you! You've been around for so long and then suddenly gone. It's weird." Tim replies.
"Fair enough. Anyway, how's work?" I ask, letting go of his hand.
"Not bad. Could be better. I hear you've got a job already!"
"Yeah. It's not much. Just an apprentice at a lab so all science stuff." I shrug.
"It's great to see you growing up. You're going to do good for yourself." He claps me on the shoulder and I blush slightly.
"Thanks. I hope I do."
Dinner is an informal affair. Aunt Maria cooked 2 pasta bakes and both are equally delicious. Once everything is tidied up, the kids are put to bed and we adults sit in the lounge for a few hours just discussing whatever topics we could find.
By the time we return home, it's almost 10 and I excuse myself to make a phone call upstairs. I dial Matt's number and sit on my bed, waiting for his answer.
"Hello?" I ask when the line finally connects.
"Hello Dominic." Matt almost purrs and the sound alone is a huge turn on.
"How are you?"
"Good. I was rather hoping you'd call."
"How come?" I furrow my brow, leaning against my pillows.
"Are you alone?" He asks.
"Yeah... Why?" I'm confused.
"I really wish you were here. I really do, Dominic." He purrs properly here and I moan slightly, his voice doing nothing to ease the steadily hardening bulge in my trousers.
"I wish I was there with you too, Matt. I miss you. I want to kiss you again."
"Oh, I'd do more than kiss you."
I whimper, this time making no attempt to hide my arousal from him.
"What would you do?" I murmur.
"So much. I'd make you feel so good." My fingers make quick work of my jeans button and zipper. I slide the garment off my hips. "I'd tease you first though, only touching your hips and thighs and arms. I'd leave you wanting me; begging for me. I wouldn't kiss your lips but around them, smiling as you whimper and whine beneath me."
"But that's mean." Reaching into my boxers, I pull my dick out and slowly tug on my length. I open my mouth in a silent moan, eyes screwed shut and head pressed back into the pillow, creating a canyon of feathers for my head.
"It may be; but I would enjoy seeing how much you want me. Your want would radiate from every pore on your body." There's shuffling on the other end of the line and I desperately wish I was there instead of hundreds of miles away, actually playing out this fantasy Matt seemed to be having.
"But I'd want to kiss you. I'd want to taste your lips on mine."
"And you would. Just not yet." He replies simply and my strokes increase in pace, my hips arching up to meet my fist. I hiss in pleasure and Matt chuckles in my ear.
"Are you touching yourself?" He asks and all I can do is whine in response.
"What was that?"
"Yes!" I gasp, hand tightening around my length.
"You dirty boy. I bet you're really getting off on this, hmm? Well, once I'd finished teasing you, I'd bend you over one of the lab desks and kiss you as I slowly push into you. And then I'd fuck you. Hard." I audibly moan at his words and pump my fist ever so slightly faster, feeling precome sliding down between my fingers.
"You'd beg me to go harder; faster. And I would, filling every inch of you and hands gripping your hips to steady us both. You'd moan my name, hands reaching around wildly to pull me in for a kiss."
"Matt. I'm so... Close!" I whimper, feeling my stomach tighten in anticipation of my orgasm.
"Just as we're both about to come, I'd stop. I'd flip you over so I can watch your face as you let go and let pleasure drag you under. I'd carry on thrusting deep into you, hitting your spot every time and then I'd come inside of you- collapsing onto your stomach as I empty myself into you." Matt's breath is slightly laboured but I barely notice as I groan out garbled variations of his name, coming hard into my hand.
"Matt! I'm coming!" I moan, arching my back one final time before collapsing onto my bed. In my ear, Matt's breathing is heavy and thick, coming out in short gasps as he mumbles my name. With one final muffled grunt, he sighs and the line is quiet again.
"You too?" I ask when I've finally recovered my normal breathing. I clean myself up with a tissue before pulling back up my trousers and boxers, just in case mum walked in.
"Yeah, only I was more subtle about my business." Matt chuckles, shuffling around on his end.
"Where did that come from though? The whole phone sex thing?"
"I can't stop thinking about you, Dominic. You're on my mind constantly. And I guess I was just horny. I you hadn't have rung, I probably would have just wanked anyway. But I think it was better to share the.. Um... Pleasure." Matt trails off, an awkward tone controlling his voice. I can imagine him sat alone in his lab, cheeks crimson as he runs a hand through his unruly hair.
"I agree. I miss you." I whisper, sighing as I stare out the window into the night.
"Me too, my little Daylighter. But you're back tomorrow, yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Well there we go." Matt soothes, voice soft like silk in my ear.
"I'm going to have to go though. Mum will be wondering what on earth I'm doing." I say reluctantly, not wanting to leave Matt.
"It's OK. You go. I'm only a text away."
"I know. See you tomorrow." I say quietly.
"See you too, Daylighter." He replies and I can almost hear the soft smile in his voice as I hang up.
"You must really like him, huh?" Mum walks in just as I put my phone on the bedside cabinet to charge. I'm startled like a rabbit caught in the headlights.
"I do... Uhh how much of that did you hear?"
"Just you saying goodnight." She says, sitting beside me and pulling me close. "I really meant it earlier. I am totally OK with you being gay and dating men. Do what makes you happy, Dom. I'll always support you." She smiles at me, hugging me tight. I press my face into her shoulder, inhaling her perfume.
"Sure, I would have liked some grandchildren... Your sisters probably popping them out like they're tiny missiles being fired in Korea and there's no chance I'll ever see them. And you're into men... But so long as you don't forget me, I honestly don't care. I want you to be happy and make the right choices." Tears start to flow down my face and I snort with laughter, wiping my eyes.
"Maybe in the lab, I'll find some way to allow gay people to have kids." I chuckle. And to be honest, with Matt's crazy brain, we would probably would end up trying.
"Just so long as you're both happy with each other. But, you have to introduce me to him soon. And you haven't told me about him yet. I need a name! Appearance!" She says eagerly and panic floods over me. It was a huge risk telling her this but I suppose if I was vague and didn't give too much away...
"His name is Matthew and he's utterly gorgeous. He's brunette and shorter than me. But his personality is what drew me to him. He's so cheerful and cute and his giggle is adorable."
And when he's angry, he's super hot. I mean, the way he snarls and his eyes turn almost completely black... It's so arousing! And also the way the way his one tooth is slightly wonky and takes the edge off the whole dangerous vampire thing when he bares his fangs...
"He sounds perfect. Now, you're seeing him again tomorrow and you don't want to look like shit. So sleep. Pancakes good again?" Mum asks and I nod, beaming at her.
"Sounds great. And thank you."
"What for? I'm your mother. I'm supposed to support you and love you." She says, shrugging and pulling me in for a hug.
"I know. But you don't get nearly enough appreciation." I counter.
"I am so glad you turned out a well rounded individual. Now, you sleep. I'll see you in the morning." She kisses my forehead and I kiss her cheek.
"Goodnight Mum."
"Goodnight Dom. Sleep well." Mum waves once before leaving the room.
"I will."
