You're on my mind every single second of the day and when you're not here, I feel slightly lost like someone has taken a limb from me. You mean the world to me, my sweet Daylighter, you really do.
It's Sunday afternoon and I'm walking down the corridor from Katherine's office, wishing the hours to speed by so that I can see you tomorrow. I could so easily come and see you at home but you need a life outside of me and I respect that.
I'm thinking of you when I walk straight into Christopher, probably still smiling that slightly dopey smile I reserve for when I'm thinking of you. He laughs and holds me at arms length, assessing me for any damage.
I like Christopher and I am ever so glad he is one of your housemates. He will protect you from any harm when I cannot and I know I can trust him.
"You OK there, Matthew?" He asks, looking at me because I probably haven't stopped smiling yet, despite running face first into a man almost double my height.
Well, not quite.
"Yeah, I'm fine!" I smile, trying to pull myself together and look halfway normal. Christopher raises an eyebrow.
"You sure?"
"Yes. How's Dominic?" I instantly ask about you, not even thinking twice. Christopher grins.
"He seems OK. I haven't seen him a lot recently because I've been busy with work but he seems fairly happy. On edge slightly but everyone is. Why you asking? You worried about him?"
"I constantly worry about him."
"Why's that? He can take care of himself surely. And also, don't let him hear you say that because he hates Tom and the rest of us worrying about him!" Christopher starts laughing and I do too. I resist the urge to say it's because I love you and that your safety and happiness is my paramount concern. And also how losing you would feel like a part of my soul was being ripped out of my body.
"Oh, just making sure he's OK. He's a nice person; good companion and I'd hate for him to be hurt." I shrug as if this is just a small thing but Christopher only seems partway convinced. As much as I want to be open and proud of our relationship and show everyone how I have such a pure, beautiful person as my soul mate, I know that revealing this to Christopher is risky and could damage your friendship with the others. Christopher shifts slightly, running a hand through his hair.
"Well, if you say so. It's a shame you never leave the lab. I'd invite you round for tea one night or tell Dom to."
"I somehow don't think my company would be well received." I say with a wry smile, remembering what you said Thomas had said when you first arrived. Christopher blushes slightly, evidently flustered.
"Well, it was nice seeing you, Matthew. I'll tell Dom you were asking after you. I would stay longer but I have an appointment at 2 and I'm late as it is."
"No, no. You go on. I'd hate to be the reason for you being late. I'll see you soon, Christopher." I smile and he returns the sentiment before heading off.
You're still on my mind when I get back to the lab and spend the night reading until your voice fills the lab, signalling that 2pm has finally arrived.
I embrace you warmly, not ever wanting to let you go. You nuzzle into me, face buried in the crook of my neck and soft lips peppering my skin with light kisses. I can't help but kiss you too, but on your cheek instead, raising a hand to move you chin so our lips meet. I kiss you lovingly, arms looping around your neck and feeling my body being pulled against yours as your hands grip my waist. I kiss you until oxygen becomes your priority over my kisses and then press my forehead against yours.
"I missed you." You breathe and the words tear through me.
"I missed you too, my love. You were on my mind the whole time we were apart. Promise me, my sweet Daylighter, that you'll never leave me."
With a soft kiss you answer.
"I promise."
