I stared at all the shimmery dresses and pressed tuxedos. Most of the faces looked happy, while the others looked either scared or angry.
I'm sure I look stressed.
Part of me wanted to find my mate tonight. Or did I just want out of my house into another hell?
I couldn't tell anymore honestly. My heart was pounding sooo fast I'm sure every vamp was dying to stop it. With every loud pump of my blood, the more the idea of becoming one of them became thrilling and frightening.
I felt my skin begin to prickle, and I instinctively moved away. I began looking for Lila's midnight colored bondage dress.
There! At the corner of my eye iI saw her dress flutter by. I whirled, chasing after the curly blond strands that bounced. I was so close, till I saw her holding hands with a man leading her outside.
My stomach tightened as she looked back. Her face had excitement but sadness written all over it. I turned away, knowing she'd found her mate.
I rushed out into the garden, the prickling sensation getting stronger and harder to ignore. My body was tense. So tense that I yelped when a freezing cold hand clamped down on my shoulder.
"Stop running."
I froze. That voice was like velvet, deep and smooth. My heart began to pound quickly. I didn't have to turn around to know the man who found me is my mate.
"I wasn't sure I had a mate," I whispered. The hand fell away, and I shivered at the lost contact. I turned around, and couldn't stop the small gasp that left my lips.
He is handsome. Tall and lean, his skin was an odd yet sexy pale tan. His jawline was harsh and his eyes were this dark brown that I couldn't tear my eyes away from.
"Mm, your name?" he asked, pulling me flush against his chest.
"Dinah," I gasped, clutching at him. "My name is Dinah...?"
"Rodolfo, but you may call me Rudy," he said in my ear. "
I shivered at how his breath tickled my ear. I nodded slowly, hoping I could find some way to actually heave in a single breath.
"Who were you running after?"
I pulled back to look into his eyes. "Lila. But she was leaving with who I assume is her mate," I answered. I looked away, unable to keep our gazes locked.
Rudy let go of me, and took a step back. He ran a hand through his hair. I felt a little unsteady without him supporting me anymore; confusion swamped me.
"Do you know what this means?" Rudy asked, his eyes staring up into the first quarter moon.
"I know I have to leave with you."
He then looked at me, and had a rather peculiar look. "You don't sound devastated."
I gave him a faint smile, and said, "My family won't miss me." I looked at the ground then. "They'd rather me dead than come home honestly."
A growl escaped his lips, but he made no move towards me. "How could your parents want you dead?"
"My mother is dead, my father was never in my life."
Silence followed. I wasn't sure what to do, so I began to hum a tune. That didn't last long since I began to look at the flowers.
White and purple violets were in the bushes, somehow glowing in the moonlight. My favorite flower just happened to be my birth flower. I began to smile and grabbed a purple violet.
"You know, this is my birth flower?" I asked, not sure if Rudy was still there.
"Violets... February baby?"
"Mm." I turned around, and almost fell backwards for Rudy had been directly behind me. He caught with ease and stared into my eyes.
He took the violet from my hands and tucked it into my hair. "Beautiful."
