The Lab

Chapter 3

I laid curled up on the floor for a while. My head had finally stopped spinning but I still had a bit of a headache. I sighed getting to my knees, running my fingers through my extremely long greasy hair. I wish I had a pair of scissors or something so that I would feel a lot lighter when I ran. I enjoyed long hair it's just this was too much.

"Are you okay Lucy?" I look over and see that the voice came from Erin.

I crawl over and down, crossing my legs. The rips in my worn jeans stretched, I begged they wouldn't rip anymore. I shrugged looking down at the floor. I looked up at Erin again and I felt jealous. Her long red hair was clean. Her clothes, which was just a simple pair of jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt with some cartoon characters on it that I didn't recognize. To me she seemed rich, a millionaire that she actually had clean, non-torn clothes.

Sure the three of us had bathed in the river near our little camp. The water though wasn't completely clean. Fish lived and swam in it, along with the occasional bear, elk, deer, or moose passing through it. Also the water was freezing most of the time and we had no soap. I would kill for a hot shower with an actual bar of soap.

"Lucy, I've been needing to ask you something." she said sounding almost nervous. I shrugged and said, "Ask away."

"Well, what exactly is this place and.... who are you two?" she said sounding scared almost that she asked or something.

"Well... jeez where do we start. For one, I might as well introduce myself of who I am. My full name is really Lucy Pemington. I'm.... fifteen?" I had to think about that one, pretty sure it was July or August. So that would mean my birthday was at least seven or eight months ago, jeez. I noticed that Erin's eyes had widened.

"What?"

"Your the Lucy Pemington! That girl that went missing two years ago!" she said shocked.

I forced out a chuckle. "So the world hasn't forgotten who I am, didn't know I was that popular. How do you know this, because I don't remember you going to my school when I was younger."

"You were like all over the news for a long time, its starting to die down but occasionally they'll talk about it. Also I moved here when I was fourteen, I used to live in Utah."

"Well I'll be darned... what about Kitsune? Did they ever mention an Ivan or a Kevin either?" she sat there and thought about it for a second and then slowly nodded.

"I remember an Ivan being mentioned on the news once about him being missing, why?" I sighed, "He's like us too but hopefully the labbies don't find him." Ivan and I aren't actually related but he's kind of like a little brother to me. He can take care of himself better now since he's twelve or thirteen I believe. I can't remember when he last told me it was around his birthday. "Nothing on a Kevin? Kitsune?" she shook her head, "If they have I either haven't seen it or I forgot. I'm sorry."

"Anyway" I continued "this place is called F.L.O.W. Now I mean, I don't know what it stands for, but I do know one thing, we hate them." she nodded, agreeing. "Us on the other hand well if you haven't noticed were not fully human anymore. Our hearing and smelling is beyond any humans. We can morph into well wolves as you've seen. Also we have these." I lifted up my foot revealing my pads. They were on my bottom of my heel and below my toes. They were almost the same color as my skin but a bit darker. "There like what dogs have so it makes it easier for us to walk on rougher terrain. So shoes aren't necessary for us and also my tennis shoes were destroyed a long time ago." Erin's eyes were still staring at my feet looking quite surprised. "Well that explains why you aren't wearing shoes."

"Lastly we seem to able to regenerate rather quickly. Like if we got cut it would be gone in a couple of hours." I remember this from a couple of occasions. Like this one time I twisted my ankle really bad but the next day I was fine. Also another time Kitsune got a huge cut on her leg from a sharp rock and in about two days she was fine. I did hate those labbies and black clothed guards but whatever they did to us it was oddly something I don't think I could live without now.

Suddenly the double doors at the end of the hall burst open. Out came four guards, all of them holding big guns, hopefully just tranquilizers. I glared at them feeling my canines start to form in my mouth. Two of them separate and both split up to Kitsune and I's cell doors. A man who has dirty blonde, buzz cut hair pushed the button next to my door causing is too slide open.

"Come on, we have a lot to get done today." he said gesturing with gun for me to come out. I snarled at him and I get to my feet and walk over.

I step outside of the cell and my hands are immediately cuffed by two giant cuffs. I watch the guard pull out what looks to be some kind of very small remote. He pushes a button on it and I hear the cuffs start to hum. They suddenly come together. I try pulling them apart but I can't. The guard smirks at me and says, "There called electro magnetic cuffs, good luck trying to break out of those." I look over and see they put a pair on Kitsune too, seeing she was biting at them trying to get them to come apart.

The guard uses the butt of his gun shoving me forward. I look over at Erin who had a worried look on her face. The walk was quicker then I thought. We walked through two long hallways until we were stopped by one smooth silver door with no window or anything to see what was behind it. Next to it was a card scanner and I watched as one very tall guard scanned his card, which then caused a little green light to turn on. The scanner made a beep sound causing the silver door to slide open. I felt myself get shoved inside causing me too fall to the floor. The door shut behind me quickly. I got back up quickly and I hear another buzzing sound begging its not a room that would shock me with electricity. I suddenly felt the cuff around my wrists let go of each other.

I blink looking around in the massive room I was shoved into. The walls were pure white and the floor was solid black. I squint looking upward seeing huge bright lights almost making the white walls glow. I look away instantly and continue looking around. I see on the same wall as the door I was shoved through there's another one exactly like it. As soon as I spot it, it slides open with Kitsune tumbling out. I watch her hands come apart and the door slamming behind her. I continue to look around and spot what looks to be a glass of some kind but I couldn't see through it. One way glass. I concentrate on listening in that direction.

"The test subjects are ready sir." I hear a faint by somewhat clear male voice say.

"Good, Jane announce to Kitsune and Lucy that were ready to begin." says another male voice but this one sounds a bit deeper.

"Kitsune and Lucy. Today we will be giving you some what of a pre-test to see how well you know your strength." the woman or Jane's voice echo's through the room causing me to wince because of my sensitive hearing. "We will be starting out with an easy oppenents." As soon as she finished her sentence two silver doors that I didn't see before opened below the giant one way mirror. They were two human looking figures that were a very light grey. They had no face, hair or anything like that. Both of them were holding onto long silver rods with the ends of them sparking blue light. Electricity. "These A.I's shall be your first oppenents, begin!"
