The End (or is it?)

The wind whipped at Kai's head as he sped on his bike across the sand at top speed. His helmet hardly helping his eyes from becoming dry. There it was, the tall dull building with those two huge doors. Kai turned the speed up as he dashed on the sand leaving a trail of dust behind him. At last, he halted to a stop his bike in front of the doors, taking a deep breath, he parked his bike against the wall and looked up to the top of the doors. Eying the tiny camera above, he waved smiling, or at least he tried to smile.

The doors creaked and opened inwards, allowing Kai to enter. Inside, the ground was dry and plants were dead. He walked on as the guards holding tasers and batons turned to face him, greeting him with a stern face as they turned back to keep watch.  Kai nodded back with a straight face approaching the second door, a jail-like door with metal railings giving an eerie feeling. Kai nodded to the guard inside the guardhouse who then drew back doors to allow him to walk through. Taking a deep breath, he entered, into the lift and down below underground.

The lift cranked to a stop and the doors opened, screeching oddly. "How are they holding up?" Kai asked, the man whipped his head around as his eyes widened at Kai's appearance. "Oh, sir. I wasn't expecting you till next week." "Sorry Bishop," Kai chuckled, "I didn't mean to surprise you, I just wanted to check on them." Bishop nodded, he turned to his computers as he continued on his scientific work.

"I've found out their true identities sir. One of which you might be pretty surprised over." Kai walked over the the computer Bishop was furiously typing on. His screen then directed to a profile, the profile of the metal bender. "Lucy Leonhart," he started off, "An engineer working at Borg Industries. She helped manufacture the prototypes of inventions Cirus Borg came up with, Borg should know her." Bishop moved on, clicking the 'next' button.

It showed the profile of the air bender. "This is Zachary Parma," Bishop cleared his throat, "An inventor who lives in a remote village, those in his village say he disappeared the day he left for town." Kai raised his eyebrow, "Why?" "People say he was excited as he had saved enough to buy a ticket for a Borg Industries Tour inside the tower. Apparently he left his village for that day to go on the tour but never came back."

Kai scratched his chin thoughtfully, "Who's next?" He asked.

The screen moved on to the next profile. "Samuel Yamada," Bishop said. "This is the nature bender. He's a mix of Japanese by the way, he's famous in the less urban areas of Ninjago City for his remarkable martial arts skills. His skills we noticed by the staff at Borg Industries and they invited him to test out their weaponry and other martial arts related inventions. Him feeling honoured, accepted the invitation of course but he never got to the guest room."

Kai gave Bishop a questioning look, "There was evidence of him entering the Borg Industries building though." Bishop switched to a recorded tape by a security camera showing a man with black hair entering the building talking with a member of Borg Industries. Kai narrowed his eyes, all these...incidents somehow happened in Borg Tower.

"And the last bender?" Bishop clicked the mouse and switched to the next profile, "This is the water bender, she is-" "Ashley Carter." Kai cut him off. Bishop looked at him, "You know her?" Kai nodded, sadness seeping into his eyes.

Bishop stared back at the screen, "Then you should know she was a student at Ninjago High School." Kai nodded, "Her class went on a field trip to Borg Industries but they say she went missing there too. Here's some footage of her entering the weapons manufacturing room in Borg Industries."

Bishop cut to a recorded tape of Ashley hanging back from the tail end of her class before dashing into the door of the weapons manufacturing room.

Kai chuckled slightly, "She was always that kind of rebel."

He gave a small smile. "Well," Bishop said glancing at Kai, "What I've concluded is that these innocent people were mind controlled by a spirit from the cursed realm to destroy you ninja Kai." Kai glanced at Bishop, "But why them? Any other employee could have been mind controlled, why Lucy? And any other visitor could have been taken too, it didn't have to be Ashley or Zachary." "Think Kai," Bishop said, putting his hand on his shoulder and leading him around his desk of computers, serums and notes. "What do others need to conquer you?" Kai remained silent, "A mindset as strong as any of us." He said at last, "Exactly." Bishop smiled,

"Now look at them," Bishop said, positioning Kai to stand in the middle of a huge tall wall, split into four sections, like a giant window only that whatever screen this was was black in colour.

"What is this?" He asked, Bishop pressed a button and the glass panels turned transparent; revealing four people. It dawned on Kai that these were the four benders.

The four were hardly recognisable, A young well built man was pounding at the glass angrily, "Let us out!" He growled, Kai guessed that he was Samuel and the other man, sitting in the corner of his cell, eying Kai with an intense stare. His hair was pulled back similar to that of Borg's and he had large curious eyes, most probably the man named Zachary. And there was Lucy, he knew it was her because he knew the other girl, pounding at the glass and screaming at him was Ashley. Just as he knew her only older and angrier, her eyebrows furrowed into a deep frown as she glared daggers at him.

"You put us here!" She roared as she pounded at the glass again. "Shut up Ashley you're annoying me!" Hissed Lucy through the floor. Kai stared at Ashley in regret, "Don't be sorry, it wasn't your fault." Bishop commented, noticing Kai's troubled face. "I've been working on a cure for them," he pointed to his notes and serums, "based off their blood which has been rather difficult to obtain." Kai nodded, still staring at Ashley, "When will it be ready?" He asked, "Oh...I don't know..." Bishop said shaking his head, "I figured whatever is controlling them is similar to dark matter." He walked over to Kai and put his hand on his shoulder, "Look at their eye pupils Kai," he said as he pointed at Ashley, she growled as she pounded at the glass. Kai's eyes widened, "They're red." He muttered. "Yes, it's like poison Kai, I should be able to cure it like a bad infection, I just need time." "Alright, all the best." Kai nodded at him. Bishop glanced at the four benders and at him again, then walked away. Kai crossed his arms and stared at Ashley, she punched the glass furiously, each punch rippling with an energy wave. "Ashley don't you remember me?" Kai asked rather softly as he stared at her with sad drooping eyes. Ashley narrowed her eyes and turned away. "We were childhood friends remember? And Nya? You two used to be like sisters back then." Kai pressed his hand against the glass, "At least try and remember." Ashley didn't turn, sighing, he removed his hand and began to walk away.

"Kai..." It was barely a whisper. He whipped his head around and stared at her, silence overtook them and Kai's heart beat even faster. "Of course I remember you."
