Chapter 8

'Nagato!' I shouted. I was alone in a completely white room. 'Nagato! Nagato help me!' I shouted. I could see his red hair but he was walking away. I tried shouting louder but I couldn't. 'Nagato! Please! Don't leave!' He continued to walk away. 'Nagato no! I'm sorry I failed!' Walking away. '....Please don't go.' He turned, even though I had said it quieter. He looked at me worriedly, then turned around. I heard lots of commotion. Nagato opened a door shape in the whiteness. I saw people moving about. Hoshi getting a bowl of water, Yahiko sitting on the floor, patiently. Nagato stepped through and the closed the door. I ran up to the spot in the wall. There seemed to be no handle. I pressed the wall and the shape of a door appeared. It opened and allowed me to step through. So much commotion..............

I opened my eyes. I was laying on the floor. I looked over to Nagato he was staring at a body on the table. A longer look at the body made me realise it was Konan. Oh no. She had been hurt by the fourth. I looked at Hoshi, who was trying to cool her down with a wet flannel. I stood up and walked over to her. Her eyes were closed, she looked peaceful.

'How is she?' Nagato said.

Hoshi looked up at him. 'Not good. She's lost a lot of blood and her heart beat is slowing down.' She leaned closer to Nagato and whispered something. I didn't catch all of it, but I heard 'Won't make' and 'night,' I didn't want to hear anymore. I turned to Yahiko.

His eyes were dark and full of anger. Although, more importantly, they were depressed. I understood how he felt. Last night he had been worried about Konan going into battle, my guess was she'd convinced him to let her work on her own. He probably hadn't liked it but wanted her to know he believed in her. Now, all that was going through his head was guilt. It looked as though he was going to cry but he wasn't going to let it out. I turned to Nagato.

He looked morose and I wondered if he was going to burst out in tears. Unlike Yahiko, Nagato was a more emotional person, or so I'd guessed. He didn't, however, and stayed staring at her body. Hoshi stood up and walked back outside to get more water. All of a sudden, Konan exhaled loudly and opened her eyes. Yahiko ran over to her and held her hand. Nagato bent down to get closer to her. She looked in pain. A lot of pain. She looked at Yahiko and Nagato and smiled. They smiled back.

'You had us scared for a second then,' Nagato said, laughing slightly.

'Yeah, don't do that to us.' Yahiko said, gripping her hand tighter.

She took a long breath. 'Sorry guys....I.....I just didn't know how else to make a big performance out of nothing.' she said. She laughed as well, but it was different. You could hear the pain behind it.

'Yahiko almost cried when he saw you like that.' Nagato said, laughing still.

'Shut up you, you were the one who started freaking out and hyperventilating.' Yahiko said.

Konan smiled again, taking another long breath. 'Stop it you two, you always argue. You didn't need to worry......I'm going to be fine.....We'll have lunched once I feel better.' She said.

'Yeah, back at the hideout Jiraya Sensei made us.' Nagato said.

'And we'll invite him.' Yahiko said.

'And when the night ends we'll still be up laughing and drinking sake.' Nagato said.

Konan smiled. 'That......would be.....nice' she said. I felt a tear fall from my face.

'Yeah, but you've got to keep your end of the bargain too.' Yahiko said. 'You've got to survive this.' A tear fell from his eyes and for the first time I finally realised how much Yahiko loved this woman.
