"I'll drive," Vic stated. I opened my mouth to argue with him but he just looked at me firmly. "You are in no state to drive yourself."
"But what do I say when they ask who you are?" I asked quietly.
He looked at me. "Could I pass as your family friend?"
"The lot of us are close. I would have mentioned you at least once."
"Then I'll just stay in the car." He replied, turning around and picking the keys up from the bookshelf where I had left them.
"Okay."
I let him wrap an arm around mine and lead me out of the apartment and down the hallway. I was completely out of it, Jack had phoned again although this time he was just crying. I hadn't understood much of what he was saying, just that it was urgent, and that I needed to be there now.
The others were blowing up our group chat. Josh screaming at someone to come and pick him up since he was still stuck at campus and Justin agreeing. They were just as panicked and worried as I was. It was a small relief that I knew I wasn't alone in this.
Jack barely responded to anything, stating he was at the hospital and we just needed to get there as fast as possible.
Vic guided me into the car, I felt like I was almost in a dream as he swung out of the parking lot. We drove mostly in silence until Vic turned on the radio, slicing the silence in half. The annoying voices of the reporters and the bad music irritated me whilst I was in this fucked-up state, causing me to slam my palm down on the radio's off button. Vic looked sideways at me, his eyebrows raised but didn't comment on the action, letting me have the silence.
"You guys are like a little family," he noted.
"Yes."
"I'm sure he's fine, Kellin. Don't panic."
"Jack's crying."
"I know. I heard. He's just as worried as you."
For the rest of the drive we didn't speak, the exception being Vic reminding me every now and then to stop hyperventilating.

I was first to see Alex's parents before anyone else. Since they knew me very well his mother Isobel came and draped herself over me, crying into my shoulder. I had very little height on her, she was wearing quite high heels and I barely have any height as it is. Alex's dad, Peter, stood behind her looking very grim and giving me a solemn smile when our eyes met.
"Oh Kellin, I'm glad you're here," she sniffed into my shoulder. "So far none of you boys have showed up yet, but they're all very worried and on their way. I'm glad Alex has you lot."
"How is he?" I asked, keeping my voice from quivering. "What happened to him?"
"I don't know," She said and then she was crying into my shoulder again, while I just stood there holding her, doing my best at comforting.
"He was apparently jumped," Peter answered, leaning against the whitewashed hospital wall. He was doing his best to remain calm about the situation but I could sense the worry hidden beneath his cool facade.
"Jumped?" I asked confused.
"He went on the wrong side of campus. Some boys got to him," Peter explained. "We're not too sure about it ourselves yet. We're waiting for him to come round."
