"Looking for you?" I asked confused. "Why would they ransack her apartment then?"

"I don't think they know I'm in here." It was like he was thinking aloud, figuring everything out as he spoke. "I think they needed her for clues."

"What?"

"I don't think they've tracked me down properly," he muttered. "Maybe just to this area, I don't know."

I gaped at him. "Well what the fuck do we do when they come back?"

He looked at me, really acknowledging me now. "They won't now. I got people going to figure this out and they'll cover up everything. They'll find out who came and how much of a threat they are and we'll work from there."

"What about the girl who lives in the apartment?" I asked running a hand through my messy hair and trying to steady my breaths.

"They'll sort that out too," Vic said matter-of-factly. "Don't worry about it too much, they'll be here first thing in the morning, if not before."

"Don't worry?" I squeaked. "She could be dead!"

"Or," Vic began, "she could not be."

I walked over to the couch/Vic's bed and threw myself down on to it.

"How come we could hear the banging of the window and nobody else could?" I asked.

"The soundproofing device," he said digging in his pocket for the ones he had collected and lifted it up to show me. It sat between his fingers, the red light no longer blinking but dull. It looked a bit like a screw, just with a big light attached on the end.

"You said we didn't have one on our door," I remembered.

"I checked again, we didn't."

"Why not?"

"They were rushing and became careless. Your apartment is tucked in the corner of this corridor easy to miss if you're not looking for it. They also probably didn't account for me being here." Vic stated.

"Oh yes, because you're such a badass know it all," I rolled my eyes.

"I actually am, thanks," Vic smiled, moving to sit next to me on the couch.

"Of all the people this could have happened to," I closed my eyes, "it happened to me."

"'This?'" Vic questioned.

"An assassin, in my apartment, killing a dude." I explained. "Which by the way, would have gone horribly wrong for you."

"Oh would it have?" I could hear the smirk in his voice.

"Your dude hasn't come yet has he? It's been like a month." I said opening my eyes and turning my head to look at him. "If I didn't come home early I still would've caught you."

"Oh no." Vic broke into his know-it-all grin. "We knew the exact flight you were on and the time you were supposed to land. Caught me: no. Inconvenienced me: yes."

"Yet with all that information I still managed to catch you off guard," I replied smugly.

He laughed at that, nodding his head in appreciation to my facts.
