In the beginning, only Chaos and Void existed throughout the whole universe. All else was empty, silent, and filled with total darkness. Then, almost out of nothing, Love was born, which brought the start of order. They had five children together – Gaia, Tartarus, Eros, Erebus, and Nyx. Well one thing led to another and creation began. There were heavens and the earth, night and day, land, sea, and sky. Creation didn't stop there, it continued and continued until it was the time of the Gods.
As you know, Kronos swallowed five of his children and a rock. His wife, Rhea, hid their youngest child in island called Crete in hopes that one day he would save his family. Throughout the years he was raised by woodland creatures called the nymphs and the once in a blue moon visits from his estranged mother. It wasn't happy reunions, especially when he hit his teenager years. The number of I hate yous Rhea had to hear could probably buy you a huge mansion. Thank the Gods they stay teenagers for one to two years.
Though his relationship with his mother was pretty much non-existent, he schemed with her to stop his father's madness. He first broke out the Cyclops and the Hecatoncheires who no doubt would be incredibly useful for his war effort. With directions from his mother, the Cyclops built weapons customed to each of his siblings. Then with the nymph's knowledge, both mother and son created a special blend of herbs that would make Kronos sick to his stomach which was where they needed him to feel.
It was a glorious sight, watching a full-grown titan hurling golden orbs out of his mouth. Pretty magical really if you can ignore the retching. One by one those orbs turned into humanoid figures. Though confused, his siblings had no choice but to follow this strange man who kept screaming "It actually worked!". I mean I guess it beats being swallowed again.
Once they got their bearings, the Godlings officially declared war against their father. This led to a 11-year conflict that was known as The Titanomachy or something simpler The Titan War. You see Zeus' siblings were fresh off the womb well stomach so you can imagine how the first few years were.
Through the years the siblings became battle hardened soldiers, easily defeating the timely attacks of their father. This made Kronos anxious, which no doubt made him more reckless. Raid after raid, Kronos threw everything he had in hopes of depleting their resources. But it seemed that no matter what he did, they kept pushing and pushing. Unknowingly to him, The Gods did not have much left so as a last-ditch effort, the three brothers fused their weapons creating The Spear of Triam. With the weapon and the aid of the Elder Cyclopes and Hekatonkheires, the Gods finally prevailed.
To bring order to the world, the siblings created a council with Zeus as their King. For a while, life was smooth sailing. The Gods built their homes in Mount Olympus, reigned over their domains, settled squabbles amongst each other. But good things never seem to last.
Paranoia seems to run in the family or probably some curse a King has for total control. Zeus created a law that only The King's recognized heirs are worthy in their blood and can contest for a seat in the council. In light of this, the direct descendants of an Olympian, must pass through a series of trials to prove their worth.
With this law implemented, Zeus hopes to dissuade his brethren's children from joining the council. Now, that was just a tiny part of his long list of demands for the interested. To ensure that he had almost full reign over the Olympus, he went to great lengths of kicking two of his siblings off the council. As the saying goes, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
