Avery stirred, the smell of eggs and bacon drifting through her room. She opened her eyes, stretching before she winced, holding her ankle. I must've rolled it running home, she thought to herself. Sitting up, she heard Michael on the guitar in his room, causing her to look to her alarm. It was only 9:00 AM, why was Mikey up? She lazily slipped out of bed before she realized she probably looked terrible, with her not-so-pajama looking clothes all wrinkled and her eyeliner likely smudged.
Shrugging, she stepped out of her room, looking at Michael who was sitting on his bed, strumming his guitar and humming softly. He looked up, pulling back in confusion as he pointed.
"You, my friend, look like shit." He spoke, laughing in between words a little.
Avery stuck her tongue out, flipping him off. She was already past his door when he called her name, so she backtracked, looking at him as she leaned back.
"Luke is ignoring me, do you know why?"
Avery felt her face drop, and her stomach press against her chest. Everything seemed surreal, like she just realized what had happened last night - and Michael noticed something was wrong.
"Avery, what happened last night? You came home really fucking late." Michael said, concern and betrayal - and probably confusion spreading across his pale face.
"If you think I was off with Luke, you're wrong."
"What else am I supposed to think, it makes sense. You came home late, like, really late, and now Luke is ignoring me, as if he's trying to avoid you."
"Well I mean, he probably is trying to avoid me-" She defended herself, not wanting to tell her brother what had happened last night. It's no doubt he'd be pissed, and probably try to talk to Calum.
"Why? Why would Luke ignore you. What did you do?" Michael said, pointing at her accusingly.
"Look, I did nothing. I mean - yeah, I did something, but I can't, I don't really," Avery stuttered, trying to formulate a sentence without giving anything away. She was left thinking of words as Michael stormed passed her, racing down the stairs.
"Michael, wait!" She called, but it was a lost cause. She huffed loudly, feeling a large ball of regret and anxiety rise in her stomach. She quickly locked herself in the bathroom, getting ready to take a shower.
Afterwards, Avery had walked around town. It was something she did often - mostly to take her mind off things as she looked at over priced winter coats and underpriced hookers. She actually made a few friends talking to them, but they either disappeared the next month, or just moved onto a different location.
It had got to about noon when Avery decided to head back, but a familiar face made her stop, and she quickly followed him, tapping his shoulder. The blonde boy turned around, his face turning cold as he rolled his eyes at her.
"Why are you ignoring Michael?"
"I'm not."
"Yes you are."
"Nope."
"Quit fucking around, he's totally in the dumps today. He thinks I had sex with you and now you're avoiding me."
"What?"
"Exactly!" I say, crossing my arms.
"No, I meant what, as in, wouldn't be more likely you'd be fucking Calum? I mean, once you took off he was right behind you."
Avery stared at him, her heart pounding. She felt her cheeks flash up and she, for once, felt like crying, maybe even punching Luke. He looked bad enough, though. His lip ring was missing, and was replaced with a scab. He had a black eye,
