Maasaki's p.o.v
It was early in the morning, maybe about 7am. Everyone was barely waking up, but Chou made sure that we were all up for breakfast. She was fairly strict when it was time to eat because she wanted to make sure that we had all eaten.
I was already at the table with a tired Hiroki sitting beside me, waiting for the other children to come to the dinning table. From here, I can hear Chou shout up the stairs telling the others to hurry up. When she finally heard the loud stomps of feet on the stairs, she made her way towards the kitchen and began to place our plate of food on the table.
As soon as my food was placed, I ate my food rather quickly because if you aren't careful enough, the others will go out of their way to steal some food off of your plate if either you or Chou isn't looking. Well, if you think about it, everyone here eats fairly quickly in order to avoid that situation.
When Hiroki's goons finally entered, they tiredly looked around for their "leader", and when they saw he was sitting next to me, I can tell that they didn't like it one bit. They all sat at Hiroki's right side just glaring at me. I turned my gaze away from them and just tried my best to ignore them.
Once I was finished, Chou took my plate away and began to push any children who were finished with their food to out and play or to go and run some errands. Chou had told me to go and play since I was the only orphan kid who didn't really have a friend. I appreciate that she was worried for my well being, but I disliked how she pushed me to make friends here. When will she ever learn that making friends isn't as easy as she makes it out to be.
I sighed to myself and walked by a few kids who were already with their friends just gossiping in their little groups. I sat down beside the same tree I usually go to and propped my elbow on my knee and just leaned my head on my hand. I sat there just waiting for the time to hurry up and pass by.
"Maasaki!" a voice shouted.
I looked up to my right to see Hiroki smiling brightly at me with his right hand waving at me. When he caught up to me, he began to huff to himself trying to catch his breath. He then sat down beside me just smiling at me. I felt a bit uncomfortable seeing that I'm not sure how to react about having a friend. I may know the qualities of being one, but it's far different than having a friend who is physically there.
"You wanna play something?" he asked. "Oh, oh, oh! Or maybe we can talk about what we like or what we don't like to know each other better!"
"Uh.. sure?"
"Mmm, my favorite color is gray." Hiroki said.
"Any shade of blue."
"I like to pretend I'm a strong shinobi and that everyone comes to me for help!"
"I like to explore different areas in the Mist." I said.
"I disli- no, I hate bitter foods! Bleh!" Hiroki said with a disgusted look on his face.
I slightly chuckled at his reaction and said, "I dislike the Mist and how it is run..."
"Oh! I dislike-"
"Hiroki!" Chou shouted. "Can you come here for a minute, please?"
"Okay!" Hiroki shouted back before turning his attention towards me. "I'll be right back Maasaki!"
I gave him a nod as he ran off towards the orphanage home. I slumped down on the tree a bit, waiting for Hiroki to come back. Funny, now that I have a friend, everything that I used to do, like now, is very boring without him.
I began to pluck some grass in front of me and hummed to myself to pass some time. As I did that, I heard a few feet shuffling against the earthy ground, making me look up to see who it was. When I did, it happened to be Hiroki's friends.
