-Flashback-
HELENA
"Helena, go in your room and lock that door behind you!" Momma yelled, cautiously looking back at Papa.
"Don't you dare lock that fucking door or I'll break it down!" Papa screamed, swaying back and forth.
"Go!" I didn't need to see what would happen next to run through the hall, to my little room, and lock that big white door behind me.My mother is a gracious woman, in the midst of a bad marriage. She's small and frail, her hands now shake like the last leaf of November. She never used to shake like that.
My father, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. He's a giant man, that can touch the ceiling without strain, and is portly on his front. He's always had a bad temper. I've always wondered why Momma wanted to stay. Maybe it was because of me, maybe or was some enrichment on her pride. I wouldn't ever know.I laid my back against the cold door, listening for either a crash, a scream, or crying.
CRASH
Oh, there it was.
I heard some groaning, and panting.
"Helena, Helena honey, its me." My moms voice came through the door.
I unlocked it gently, as if not to disturb anyone. I looked out to the kitchen to see my father, holding onto a beer bottle as if for dear life, unconscious and oblivious. My mother, despite the shaking, was alright. She had tear stains on her cheeks, but with these occurrences, it was normal.
Momma burst into the room, and hugged me tightly.
We just sat there, rocking back and forth. No words, no tears, just...fear.
