The rest of the day was kind of a blur to me. I was taught how to mop a floor, wash dishes in a sink, and how to boil water. All things I already knew how to do, but I pretended to listen carefully. Ben was on the edge of the large room with a kitchen set up in the center. He leaned against the wall and watched Jonathan and I.
"We will be giving you some new things to help you live your new life." The woman teaching us said. I turned my attention back to her as she continued. "We will give you a bag and let you go into a room. You may fill the bag with what you will want to start your new life. The things taken from you when you arrived, will be in there. Also, be sure to get the essentials. Blankets, clothes, and other things you may need." She reaches into one of the cupboards and pulls out two black backpacks. They looked fairly new, and were a reasonable size. She motions for us to follow her. I glance over at Ben, who is standing up from his leaning position, then follows us from a distance. I guess he's supposed to guard us.
The woman opens a door into a room filled with things. The items are separated into neat piles of pillows, blankets, and other things. "You have two minutes." The woman says. Jonathan and I glance at each other then begin running around the room. I quickly grab a blanket off the table. I unfold it to make sure it is long enough. It wasn't so I put it back and unfold another. This one is long enough and I shove it down into the base of the pack. I quickly grab a pillow then make my way over to the table strewn with an assortment of different items.
There is jewelry, stuffed animals, pictures of family members. These all must belong to someone. I leave the table and walk over to the clothes. I immediately see my boots and pick them up. I stick them into my bag then grab a pair of black pants, two shirts,a hoodie, a pair of shorts, two pairs of socks, a skirt, and a knee length blue dress. I hold the dress closely before I stick it into the bag. Then I see a bit of orange fabric sticking out from under a stack of clothes. I pull on it and realize it is my dress. They must have taken my bag from Bryce and Dylan! I quickly exchange it for the blue dress then move over to the soaps. I grab a bar of soap and some shampoo. It had been forever since I had had shampoo.
"Time!" The lady shouts. "Come on. That's it." Jonathan and I exchange looks before walking out. As I walk past the table of things, I see Josh's iPod. I quickly grab it and shove it in my bag. The woman gives me a stern look, but lets it slide. I zip up the bag and sling it over my shoulders. Ben was standing right behind the woman outside the doorway. "Ben will now take you to you're rooms. You will be shipped to the city tomorrow. Be ready to leave by 7 o'clock sharp." I nod and she clicks away on her heels.
"Come with me." Ben says. He turns and we follow him. There were guards by every door, and cameras hanging down from the ceilings. I wonder if those are on. He leads us down a series of long hallways and up two flights of steps. We finally reach a hallway with doors lining the walls. He pulls a key out of his pocket and unlocks a door around the middle of the hall.
"This is your room." He says. He motions for us to go inside. There are two beds, and a small table with two chairs. Window's line the tops of the walls, letting in light, but they are to high for me to see out of. "The bathroom's through there." He points to a door leading to a dark room. Jonathan walks into the center of the room and looks around. Then I hear a whisper on the back of my neck. "Be ready to leave at 2 A.M. Don't turn and look at me." I hear Ben whisper. "I'll come and get you. Be dressed, because we'll only have a short period of time. I'll have Josh and your friends as well. If you aren't ready when I come for you, I'm leaving you. And if you could find a way to cover that camera in the left corner at 1:50 that would really help us out." Then he pushes me lightly in the center of the room. "Be ready tomorrow." He says aloud.
"Both of us?" I ask. He nods then leave the room, locking the door behind him.
I look around as I lower the pack from my shoulders. "I can sleep in the bathroom if that would make you more comfortable." Jonathan says.
"No, it's fine. Iv'e been homeless for a while. I don't mind other people being in the room when I'm sleeping. Which bed do you want?" I say.
"It doesn't matter to me. I'd like this one, if that's alright." He points to the one farthest from the windows.
"Go ahead." I won't be sleeping tonight anyways. He sets his pack down onto the bed then flops down onto his back. I walk over to the other bed and set down my pack, then sit down next to it.
"So what'd you get?" He asks.
"Just the basics. Some clothes. A blanket. Soap." I leave out the iPod part. He stares up at the tall ceiling and I open my pack. I pull out the pair of pants and a t-shirt. I look over to make sure he's not watching then slip out the iPod. I shove it into my stack of clothes and head to the bathroom. Once inside I close the door and lock it. The white bathroom has a large mirror making up the wall on one side with a large glass shower on the other side. There are two shower heads, one on either side of the shower. Ew.Why would people want to shower together? I look under the large sink for a towel and find them folded neatly.
I pull one out and set my clean clothes in a small pile on the sink. I pull out the iPod and turn it on. I slide my finger across the screen and open the music, like Josh taught me how to on our way back from the wall. The first thing I see when I open it is a playlist labeled "Christopher." I open the playlist and see a list of songs. Next to the songs are his comments. He had showed me how to put comments on songs. Next to the first song called Thinking Out Loud the comments read, "Our first dance." I click on the song and it began to play.
I feel my cheeks turn red and I feel the butterflies in my stomach begin to dance again. I listen to the song as I get ready for my shower. I place my folded pictue that I had kept hidden on the counter.
After my shower I run my hands through my wet hair. It's so soft! I love shampoo! I slip on the pants and shirt then comb my hair with my fingers. I look in the mirror once before unlocking the door and going out into the room. I walk over to my pack and shove the iPod, my picture, and clothes into it. Jonathan lets out a groan as he sits up from his sprawled out position on the bed.
"I'm gonna go take a shower." He says as he stands up and rustles around in his bag.
"Ok. Hey, I might take a short nap, if they bring dinner, could you wake me up if I'm not up by then?"
"Yeah. Sure." He says, turning to me. He smiles and I see his eyes look me up and down. Then he shakes his head slightly and walks to the bathroom. Once he closes the door I take a walk around the room. I try the door, but it's locked. The table is a bit wobbly but the chairs are strong and sturdy. I pick one up and take it over to the bed. I set the chair on top of it then climb up on top to look out the window. All I see is a the field I had tried to run across, and the forrest. Off in the distance I see the wall. Ben's going to help us get out! He'll be here at 2 am. I should try to get some sleep, because after that, we'll probably be on the move.
I put the chair back in it's spot and hear the water come on in the bathroom. I pull my blanket and pillow out of my pack and curl up on the bed, then I close my eyes and try to get some sleep.
Hope you guys are liking it! It's almost finished! Then I'll have to go through it and edit the whole thing. I'm seriously thinking about splitting up the first couple chapters, because they're just really long. Anyway, hope you're loving it!
And always remember, you're worth the world to someone!
